Someone posted this in the "ERAS and the Match" forum, and i just wanted to ask if it was true for anesthesiology:

Can we be ranked without our Step 2 scores? I've heard that for IMGs the answer is no, they need their scores, but does anyone know if this is true for US grads?

I'm planning to take Step 2CK at the end of January, so this would apply to me...

It was true in my case. Not all programs require it, but I know that it hurt me for Knoxville, Tulane, Columbia, and Ocshner N.O. My step 1 was less than 1/2 std dev from the mean and I didn't sit for step 2 until march. This was a few years ago, I don't know what's changed. Unless you really did well, I'd recommend passing it prior to final rank lists.

IMG here, that matched last year.

I had to have S2 done for almost all the places I interviewed in order to be ranked. 1 place said it was ok to not finish it, but was on probation so it didn't really matter.

thanks for the responses.

ReefTiger, how did you figure out which schools wanted a step 2 score for the rank list and which didn't?

Any consensus as to which programs want a step 2 in order to be ranked for US grads? I know when i scheduled at Rush this year, they wanted to know what date I was taking it.

i was part of the admissions committee during my residency and, if the applicant did well on step 1, then we just wanted to know when they were planning on taking step 2. if there step 1 score was a little suspect, they would not be invited for an invite UNLESS they specifically called and showed interest OR did a rotation with us. then we would want to see their step 2 score before being ranked. i'm sure this is how it is at several programs
