Despite searching over the internet for long hours, i couldnt find any information to help me in my particular situation and i dont need to tell my colleagues about this situation so i decided to finally post a thread here willing to find a good help from you guys. I know you are pre dental students and i dont mean any hesitation or putting weighs on u decisions i just need your help cause i started getting into depression lol so here is my situation:

Im a 1st year international dental student, my country provides these schools for free so i wont be in debt after finishing it. I have been long considering whether to pursue dentistry or medicine but i choosed dentistry though when i choosed it i weren't sure exactly why did i take that decision but now after ive had many hours thinking about both careers i will tell you what ive found out and you can tell me if i were right taking dentistry over medicine for these reasons or not.

My reasons for dentistry: Better hours, less school, having my own business, working with my hands, i like to have free time or dental associates who can handle my business during my absence and finally i love orthodontist work so if i will specialize i will be an orthodontist when i shadowed an orthodondist i felt so much excitement towards his work and the staff he uses to treat the patient and the precise of work etc..

My reasons for medicine: Helping people or in otherwords they can count on me which makes me feel important and just feel fulfillment in medicine while im not really sure why maybe because i can save lives in medicine or be like the hero one meh though i feel fulfillment helping people's health or feeling important but i hate the idea that by the time i finish medical school i will be in my 30s and i barely wont have a life outside medical school and the age and time is really important to me... I think the only reason for me in medicine is i love being the emergency guy the one who saves people and I just feel important in medicine or feel like that im in the more broad field and the field that people can count on when they need help. So will this feeling last or i will be shocked by the reality or maybe i end up in a speciality where i dont save lives there?

Now i gave you my reasons and im waiting your help from your own perspective because im really lost i need help right now, a wisdom help from someone who can tell me what is the right place to pursue according to the reasons i gave you above. Which career do i have the wrong reasons for is it dentistry or medicine would i become miserable in dentistry or medicine according to the reasons. Just lead me to the save way ^^. Sorry guys if im typing in rush or if my english is bad because its my 3rd languauge. Thanks ^^

EDIT: i forgot to say that im not sure that i would have a stable job for medicine in my country or not

At the end of the day, its your life. You can take all the advice you can from people, but only you know what makes you happy and what you enjoy most. I was in the same predicament as you before I started college, but after shadowing dentists, I fell in love with the career.

Is being able to save lives or someone to count on something that would keep supporting me through all these years in medicine? Though this os the only pros for medicine in my country. Im happy for you that you've found what you love gos bless you ^_^

Is oral surgery a dental specialty in your country? That could combine the things you like about both professions.
Are you talking about OMFS? Yea i think but im not into oral surgeries that much i think you guys are confused about my decision too hahah:'D

It's not really a confusing decision to us. We all decided to be dentists.
OMFS's deal with a lot of trauma so if you want to feel like a "hero" or whatever that might be what you're looking for.
Oral surgeons also perform orthognathic surgery to correct malocclusion. (since you're interested in orthodontics).
The training is lengthy but there is potential to own your own business as well.

Ultimately the decision is up to you, however if you're legitimately depressed i'd recommend changing your career goals.

What do you mean by changing my career goals. Im depressed because of the situation and the overthinking ive been through its just really hard on me.. I cant decide. While i see a bit of fulfillment in medicine i dont consider my work there i only consider that i will be so eone to count on..

You're already studying dentistry and if you're doubting the path you've chosen to the point of depression that's a problem.
You want to go into medicine because you will be someone to count on? In any healthcare field patients depend on their healthcare provider.
I think OMFS would be a good fit based on the criteria you listed earlier.
Take it or leave it, but that's my opinion.👍

This is slightly over exaggerating but it might help you: Dentists help cure toothaches and toothaches are in my opinion the worst kind of pain :hardy:
