I know that I am relatively new to this forum, but after reading several of the posts on here, and listening to M.D.'s and D.O's bash each other and then MD/DO students bashing DPM students and vice versa, I have but one comment:

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!

I know its a cliche, but really people, why are we even here? Are we in school to feed our own egos and become obsessed with the letters behind our name, or are we here to help people. Yes, being a physician (whether it be allopathic, osteopathic, or podiatric) is lucrative and prestigious in society's eyes, but are we so obsessed with noteriety that we care nothing about the people that we have taken an oath to help.

Personally, I don't care about who has more scope of practice, more prestige in title, better residencies, makes more money, etc. If I was so concerned about money, as I have said to many of my friends, I would have gone into selling insurance!

Can we please talk about things on this forum that are creative and inciteful, and that help each other become better informed about podiatry and medicine as a whole.

FEEL THE LOVE!

😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Damn Straight MRFEET 👍

Most of these people who think so much of their ego will someday be very unhappy with themselves once they get out into the real medical world. They will see their ego back fire everytime they get their panties into a fat bundle. They will say hey look at me, I am so important b/c of the letters behind my name, I went to school here, and studied this way too much, yet no one will care and think their arrogant. It is much better to be well liked in this profession.

To truly shine on in the real field of medicine, takes a special attitude and a passion to help others, regardless of what is behind your name. It does not take an genius to become an MD/DO. I believe it takes much more brain power to get a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or Neuroscience.

Positive Attitude, Perseverance, Endurance, and Emotional Stability; are the main characteristics that it takes to become a successful doctor, regardless of what is behind your name.

Hey MRFEET I look forward to be starting classes with you at Scholl this fall. We all need to just get along and throw our egos out the window. We need to find happiness in better things, such as helping others.

No one but premed students, medical students, pod students and dental students have the time or energy to sit around and contemplate what each degree means.

I don't give a crap if someone is sweeping floors for a living, really.... Big deal, I got a bunch of loans to sit around in a graduate podiatry school so that I can go brag to my buddies how smart I am and the real killer is that no one gives a crap.

Brag all you want folks, you'll end up looking stupid to most people!

And that's a dam funny thing to see happen!

Thats right....In the end it does not matter who we are, but what we have done.

But if everyone was like this, it would be the end of SDN as we know it. SDN thrives on inflated egos and uneducated opinions pretending to be fact.

In other words, it's all of the beginners that have perceptions of how it's going to be but are clueless as to reality. Funny, I don't see residents or practicing physicians posting all of these "I'm better than you and my branch of medicine is better than yours" posts. I wonder why?

Because the novelty wears off and the reality sets in that "it's just another job with a ton of responsibility and a million ways to get sued....

It's fun bragging about being a doctor and getting a following of premeds who think you're a genius, but it's another thing (at times) to actually be one and have all of the answers (good luck to that, doctor).....

But how does it really feel knowing that you've missed out on so much of your lives simply chasing after the title of doctor??? If that's all it is, you're going to be disappointed because no one gives a crap that you sat in an apartment living like a student for 12 years.... Worked your rears off to get by and gave up your youth.....They'll still sue you for all that you have if they can and squander your hard work like it's cheap liquor.

It probably is great to go back and brag when all liquored up at a H.S. class reunion and pretend that you're the most successful one in the class... That'll show them what everyone missed out on....

The truth of the matter is that you could be the richest doctor in the world (which isn't saying much)and still be a failure in your personal life.

Your kids could be drunks and prostitutes, you're wife could be screwing around, your neighbors could laugh at you behind your back etc.

There's nothing wrong with being proud of your profession, but it makes a professional look like a shallow idiot when they base their entire persona and identity around something as trivial as a title.

Maybe we should tattoo our professions on our azzzzzzzz and parade it around like it's some badge of honor for simply having enough money/loans and a little foresight and luck to get into a graduate/professional program....

You are an interesting character Whiskers and sometimes I wonder where you pull your posts from but I could not agree with you more here. I wonder what this world would be like if everyone in it had rid themselves of the false notion that "My job defines my integrity and success".

That is called socialism/communism. So we would be Canada or the USSR. Pride in you career is a necessary part of any society. Defining your life by your job is nothing new, and will always be around.

It is animal instinct. We use our jobs and resources to attract a mate. This drive keeps us striving for more. When you lose it you get the lazy scum that don't care what they look like and love the welfare check they collect each month

Nonetheless it doesnt excuse the behavior. I agree with you that its an animal instinct but there are far more important things in life than your job. Strive to be the best you can be in everything that you do, but ones job, in no way defines a person. Society (SDN for that matter) is a little too hung up on that.

In my opinion we have lost the things that made having pride in you job a positive. We do not teach our young responibility, loyalty, or national pride. It is like Pandora's box, we've let out some of the emotions but not all of the ones we need to make our country great again.
