Hi,
I was wondering what cardiac procedures an Interventional Radiologist does?

I haven't found too much through google, so if anyone has a link with a list of cardiac procedures that IR do, please share!
Thanks

IR docs basically invented the cardiac cath but haven't done any of these since at least the 80s... this highlights one of the biggest issues in IR. The one who controls the patients also controls where they get their procedures done. IR competes with other surgical specialties for almost every procedure except a few (TIPS, TACE, etc).

I was wondering then why I frequently read comments like these (just read this):
"Cardio competes with interventional radiology and vascular surgery for procedures and for radiology suites. (You also have to go through 3 years of internal medicine to get there.)"

Cardio will use the IR suite to do peripheral vascular work/carotid stenting..these are the things that they and IR sometimes compete over. Cardio owns cardiac stenting essentially no one else does that, they also compete with both IR and vascular for peripheral stuff. All that is done in the cath lab, my anecdotal experience is the cath people aren't very good with anything outside of cardiac stenting so they use the vascular/IR rooms for that stuff.
