Alternate means you may consider as wait listed. If some of the initial interview candidates do not reply to interview by time then they would consider the next set of candidate in list.

Got a rejection from Michigan State University today. This doesn't look good at all. Only one interview so far. With 2 Pubs, 2 abstracts, 2 cardiology conference presentations (all related to cardiology - heart failure), good Usmle scores, Univ program. Man this is tougher than I was told.

Rejection from Maryland University. Well its getting difficult now. One IV, 4 Rejections so far. Well this is definitely not encouraging. Hope still persists.

to clarify...i was just updating the list, those aren't my interviews. anyway, AMG, 2nd year resident, University Program, strong letters from well known faculty, no pubs, 1 poster, bunch of submitted abstracts. no invites yet for me. waiting patiently, it's still very early i've been told.

For what it's worth, I ended up w/ a fair number of interviews last year (16 invites of 38 apps), but I didn't hear from anyone (except home program) till jan 29 or so, and the bulk were in February (and mid-Feb at that) w/ some invites not coming in until mid-March. Keep your heads up, and goodluck!
