CareerMD Fair with only 8 Pathology Jobs LOL

Damn, only 8 jobs listed for recruitment at the fair. Pretty depressing. 5 are locums positions and 3 are dermatopathology positions. Locations are throughout the US and is not a regional career fair either.

Not trying to add to the negativity on this forum but this is quite depressing.

Talked with a friend who told me how much he was getting offered at an outpatient biopsy group. Crappy vacation time and benefits. Busy group. Pay about the Medscape average. I'm sure the owner of that particular group is milking those pathologists.

It's a really dog eat dog world out there.

Would like to know what others have heard in terms of offers, both good and bad.

Glad you asked. I just took some Prozac after seeing the stark contrast. Theres no comparison. If this is not enough evidence of a "relatively tough" job market in Pathology compared to other fields I don't know what is?

Gotta respect the love these radiologists are getting from these employers! Full partnership! Excellent compensation!

I am not surprised at all to hear this...again where I practice academic groups, which make up a large % of total path jobs around here, are exploiting new grads with the opportunity to be an "instructor" sign out north of 6000 RVUs and make 95-110K. You can be canned after one year or if lucky progress to assistant prof and make 150-185K for the next 5-8 yrs. If you are geographically restricted this might be the best offer you can get as a new grad in new england.

I can see how that would be disheartening, but no path group I know of uses CareerMD to post jobs. That website and job fair, and really any medical job fair, is useless for path job applicants. It is more accurate to compare to Pathoutlines, a site where pathologists actually post jobs on. Also it is important to note the rads workforce is 2x the size of path.

For this quarter, there were 236 job postings at PathologyOutlines.com for full time or part time pathologists, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is a 32.6% increase from the 178 job postings in the third quarter of 2017. We have excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or non-pathologist positions. Of the 236 postings, 221 were for 1 position, 4 were for 2 positions, 3 were for 3 positions and 8 were for an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.

Seems like a marked improvement from last year at least.
