carribean vs. foreign school

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm sure it's a problem at small, crappy programs, but I doubt that DO rads training is generally worthless.

They are all small. Maybe a couple of the Michigan ones aren't complete crap, but the ACGME programs those are associated with are all mediocre, so the DO programs are at best equal to them.

But outside of Michigan, yes, the DO radiology residencies are universally terrible.

And the caliber of the program isn't even the main issue - you will have trouble finding a job as an AOBR certified radiologist.

Here, my friends, is a premed raised on SDN kool aid. DO != MD and ACGME != AOA.

I'm not a pre-med, to start. Secondly, if you have evidence that AOA DOs are walking around without jobs at a higher frequency than ACGME counterparts, I would be happy to see it. Anecdotes are not evidence.

I will reiterate that I did not say they would get top positions. Getting stuck in some craphole hospital in the middle of nowhere is still a job.

Please keep in mind that you are on SDN. Here, anything less than an MD from Harvard or Hopkins is crap. An MCAT score of < 35 should be repeated. 😀

Harvard? I hope you're talking about HST. Any other Harvard MD isn't worth it. :meanie:

False. Mayo > all.

OP, I am currently a student in an international program, and what I know is that there is heavy emphasis on getting USCE through US rotations. This will maximize his chances of obtaining LOR's from US attending physicians, which apparently matter somewhat to PD's for IMGs.

Although the Israeli schools don't provide opportunities for US rotations, I'd be enticed by their match lists also. I also believe that the quality of the student body matters, in terms of motivation/competition. Having smarter classmates around makes a difference in the physician training experience.

Noooo why would you resurrect this sh*tshow of a thread

Sorry didn't catch that the last post date was last month.. reading the thread through, I noticed no one really addressed the OP's questions, so I took the liberty to do so

Really. He just needs to repair his GPA; no need to send him to the wolves yet.

BGU is not a carribean school. Its a school in Israel with extensive collaborations with Columbia Medical School.

I don't feel like reading this entire thread so I dont know if anyone really talked about this or was just busy insulting israel or FMGs. I work for a doc whose daughter went to technion and is a peds resident at wash u. One of the fellows here is from the sackler program. I have debated the MD v. DO route because of my low gpa as well. The academic docs i worked for said Israel FMG>DO whereas both of my parents (non academic docs) said DO>Foreign MD. I will most likely go DO because I want to do OB/GYN which I feel like I can succeed in here with hard work through the DO route. As to SGU vs. Israel I guess to me this is a no brainer. I'm partial but Israel is a world leader in science. Plus these are basically american allopathic programs in foreign countries. That being said if I was your nephew I'd do the masters and deal with it.
