I interviewed there a couple of weeks ago. The residents didn't describe it as being malignant. I got the sense that after completing residency there, you would be prepared for anything, as Metro is a level one trauma center that stays pretty busy. They did say that they worked very hard. It is a smaller program with something like 6 residents per year. The residents described being "thrown into things" early on. They said that their help is really needed, so as a CA-1 they get to do a lot. They start rotating through all of the sub-specialty fields as a CA-1.
Everyone seemed really friendly. Some parts of the hospital were really nice and up to date, especially for a county hospital. Others, not so much (particularly the OB/Gyn suite).
Again, the residents said they weren't hurting for cases at all and they all seemed pretty happy. Really laid back. Hope that helps.
