Hey everyone, I'm a longtime lurker but finally decided to post becuz I need some insight and help picking between schools, now that I have acceptances: Case and Indiana.

Cost aside (cuz I am OOS at Indy anyway), does anyone have some info about which would be the better place to go, like if any of you have already decided to go to one or the other, what were your deciding factors?

Thanks in advance.

This is so ironic, I just had to post something when I saw this! My boyfriend was in the same boat; He was deciding between both of these schools, and considered OOS at Indiana. Ultimately, he decided to go to Case for several reasons, the first being the prestige associated with the school. Everybody knows that Case is one of the top tier schools in the country. In fact, during his interview at Indiana, the faculty asked him straight up why he would consider attending Indiana if he got into Case already. The curriculum at Case is more widely accepted by its students, compared to that of Indiana, which incorporates a great deal of problem-based learning. The facilities at Case were updated and equipped for a more modern learning regimen, where as Indiana's entire school has been under construction for the last couple years.

Overall, he felt that he would be a more respected dentist coming from Case; He would be more prepared for a career in dentistry because Case has a better clinical reputation. He felt this would make a difference in case he needed to specialize someday.

Hope this helps! It was a tough decision for him at first, too, but after putting it on paper, Case was the clear choice. Good luck! 👍

Wow, what a bull...
Is that how bad you want to go to Indiana ?

wow... s/he made an account just to persuade OP to go to case. lol

i didn't apply to indiana, so i can't tell you anything about that. but during one of my interviews, i remember there were a few people talking about indiana and how it was really old?? or some other reason why they didn't like it (i don't remember exactly at all).

i can tell you about case though. i went to undergrad here and have shadowed in the dental school so i know a good amount about it. even if JDent was trying to sabotage you, some of the things she said were true. the school has a good reputation and is known to be good clinically. they also have a nice sim lab and pretty good technology as you probably saw during your interview. i'm not sure what she was saying about the great deal of PBL at indiana though because there is also 50% PBL. so you definitely should like small group learning if you're going to case as well.

as for the city of cleveland, that's often a deal breaker for people considering case. honestly, it's not that bad. i've been here for 4 years and have grown to like cleveland. the downtown is not really what I would call a "city" but there are a bunch of bars and people fill the streets esp during the weekends. just be safe, obviously, and if you have a car it's easy to get around and also just go to the suburbs around here (which are basically like any suburb in any other state). the majority of the students i've talked to also have absolutely no problem with cleveland and they all seem really happy at case.

HOWEVER, i have been hearing rumors about case kind of changing. just things about the inside workings of the school and how some of the people in charge are not very nice. but i really don't know the details or if any of it is really true. like someone else suggested, you should try finding some current students there and see what they say. also, i'm sure there are some fishy things that go on at any school wherever you decide to go.

hope this helps, pm if you have any more questions 🙂
