Hey! Congrats on your acceptance into Case. I'll be starting my second year this fall.
The Waldorf Towers is a great place to live, assuming you can find a roommate.
If you have a roommate, you guys can split the $1054 month rent, which comes out to $527 per month for each roommate.
You have a large living room area, good size dining room and kitchen, 1.5 bathroom, and 2 sizeable bedrooms. It's big enough for a 3 person family.
Many dental and med students live here. It is safe, warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. Heat, water, and AC are included. Light breakfast is available every morning and during the winter, you get a shuttle to drive you to school. By the way, it's only a 7 min walk to school. It's far enough away from school for you to feel like you're at home, but when you have to run to lab or clinic, say in the middle of the night because you forgot to do a project, you can still run to school.
If you're unsure of other places for you to live your first year, live at the Waldorf for the first year. This will allow you to adapt to surroundings of the school. By the end of the year, you should get a better understanding of where is good and bad to live. Where do you find roommates? Admissions will send you a form to fill out to find roommates. Also become part of 2015 Case Dental Facebook page. There's a high chance someone is still trying to find a roomate.
Little Italy/Murray Hill has some pretty nice apartments as well, and your rent can be in the $400 month range when you're living alone. Before you hop on this, consider the heating expenses during the winter. This could be well over 100 dollars per month because insulation in these apartments are bad. So if you're going for this, be careful - Negotiate pricing and make sure that you're in walking distance to school. Landlords know that you're first year students and they'll rip you off. By the end of four years, your tuition may be in $320,000 debt for tuition alone.
Craigslists also helps in your apartment search. Little Italy and Cleveland Heights are walking distances to campus. AVOID at all cost EAST CLEVELAND - you will not come out of here alive.
A car is very useful in Cleveland since you will need it for grocery and miscalleneous commutes like partying or shopping. Cleveland has a train and bus system but after sunsets, I would advise against using it. Underserved and colored people tend to use these transportations etc... You're in dental school and you know where I'm going with this statement. I'm not being racist. I'm pointing out the facts.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. 🙂 Congrats, again!
