I am stuck in between CWRU and OSU. I'm an OOS and don't know what is the likelihood of me becoming an in-state after the 2nd year to pay the in-state tuition at OSU. CWRU is a private school anyways. So, if you were me, which one would you pick, and why?

Assuming the same CoA, Case.

If not, then like above poster said, cheaper option.

I would go to OSU. I've heard they have a far better program.

I was accepted at both schools. I personally got a much better vibe from the faculty and students at OSU. Just my two cents.

Ultimately, I'd choose the cheaper if there was a considerable difference in cost. However, if cost is equal, I'd choose Case any day. I loved the school. No complaints.

Can we just have a stickied, closed thread titled "If you're going to ask about deciding between schools, look here," in which the only post says "Choose the cheapest option." That's pretty much 90% of the replies to these threads anyways.

What if the difference is 20K/4 yrs ? 🙂

Not enough to matter, IMO. Granted, both of my state schools are quite inexpensive, but I picked the one that is about 32k more expensive over all four years.

+pity+What if it's $50,001?

That's the idea. Everybody's squeal point for "savings" is different.

Diggin how I can't delete that violin guy from this reply on my phone

by the way, after sitting down and doing hours of calculations:writer:, i found out that the difference is NOT $90k, but it's $70k. Don't know if that makes a huge difference or is a deal breaker:boom:

Let us know what you decided and why? Did you deposit to both schools?

Can you tell me what you have heard exactly that you say OSU has a better program?

Ultimately, this is up to you to research and make the decision. I'm on the opposite side as Glimmer, since I only interviewed at OSU and loved it (but also in-state). If you remember the financial aid session they gave after the tour (ancient history, I know), they made a pretty big point to let us know if we're OOS that we can get in-state residency after one year. It did sound like a lot of paperwork, but you're used to that by now.

From what I've heard, Case and OSU are both fantastic schools. I think Case might be a little bit ahead technologically since they're a private school, but the teaching quality at OSU is excellent (I'm sure it is at Case as well). If it makes any difference, all 3 dentists I shadowed went to OSU and said it has a very good clinical program and they felt sufficiently prepared, loved the program. They did suggest doing things like military or working in a partnership to become proficient because there isn't enough time in dental school to be a top-notch dentist (AKA, unlikely that you'll just open a practice right out of school). But OSU did set them up with all the basic techniques they needed. I also know a professor at my school who worked as a researcher in the perio clinic at Case and loved it.

Bottom line: I don't think you can go wrong with either school, but nobody can make the decision for you.

I remember the financial aid session. That's why I say the difference between the schools would be $70k, assuming I will become Ohio State resident after the 1st year.
The deal breaker for me are:
1. $70k/4 years
2. The fact that Case has a patient coordinator
