Hey Gas docs,

cuppla questions about outpatient/cash anesthesia. Would it be reasonable to establish contracts with various outpatient settings (dentists (gen'l and specialists), plastic surgeons, etc..), bring your own equipment, and bill the patients directly according the fees that you set? I have been researching this recently and this seems to be fairly common in many places, though mostly a niche occupied (at least as far as I can tell) by CRNAs. Curious about your opinions and comments.

thanx

Bump.
Thoughts, anyone?

Yeah sure. But keep in mind that what you bill is not what you are going to get. You need to negotiate your rate with all the different insurance companies. The power of one anesthesiologist is nothing compared to a group of 150 that has a foothold on a particular location.

Right right. I'm thinking more along the lines of outpatient offices, where patients would be more likely pay cash for the anesthetic. Here's an enterprising group of MDs/CRNAs offering this:

I think the biggest hurdle would be a finding a proceduralist that wants your services and is willing to pay cash.

Here's an anesthesiologist offering mobile anesthesia services down in Palo Alto:

Entrepreneurial anesthesiology. Pretty cool!
