Wanted to see what the forum thought on the cath volumes in their programs. I hear that volumes are down nationally and in my own program, the interventional fellows struggled a little to meet their numbers. Is this my program issue or are people facing similar trends. Is there a good number beyond the minimum to be considered adequately trained?

Easily reached 300 caths at the near end of third year. We do about 1400 PCIs at my center a year - it's a referral center in the region for cath.

I think it depends on the area/Center... In my hospital I am already at 200 cath by end of cath rotation as second year and expected to have around 450-500 by end of fellowship. We do around 4500 cath with around 1700-1800 PCI a year including 300 STEMI, but we are a referral center for a large area. Even with this volume , all older interventional cardiologists say that the volume now is less especially with STEMI than before and that they expected themselves to stop cathing earlier and what kept them going that the load and calls are not as bad as before...
The expectation for the future that most interventional cardiologists had to do a mixed interventional/non invasive.. they is some interventional cardiologist complaining that non invasive guys are making more than them....
