I started my application to OMFS programs and just found out that CBSE is required for the schools I was planning on applying to. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to study for this year's application cycle. I have two questions:

1) Do all schools require CBSE?
2) Any suggestions on study materials?

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

1) Yes.
2) See any of the 1,000 other threads related to CBSE exam (USMLE Step1 material).

Essentially, study as though you are a med student preparing to take the USMLE Step 1. FA, UWorld, Pathoma, picmonic, sketchymed, brosencephalon anki deck.... those are things that come to mind that med students use to prepare. Check out the allopathic forum for more info.

Please refer to this list for which programs would require the ADAT (and possible accept CBSE), some that accept the ADAT and/or CBSE, and those that do not accept the ADAT.

I would say take the CBSE. More OMFS prefer the CBSE over ADAT. Probably will stay that way b/c med schools prefer it, no guarantees though.

I assume the CBSE would be a fairer and more relevant determinate for OMFS and will stay the standardized exam for OMFS admission. Hopefully a resident can specify.

Don't hesitate on whether you should take the CBSE or not. If you're applying to OMFS, your taking it. Only a handful of programs require the ADAT.

You'll find tons of resources on SDN and other places on how to study for the CBSE and what materials to use. Here are my $0.02:

For materials I used:
- First Aid (aka the bible)
- Pathoma (I primed myself with this before diving into FA. Sets up a good foundation, but do not delay starting FA.)
- Uworld (I got it a month out and got through about 40% of it. Ideally I'd recommend getting it more than just a month out.)
- Sketchy Micro (Having a good micro foundation can really help your score. This subject is super HY for the CBSE.)

Try not to over do it with the number of materials. Honestly, you really only need FA, but some of the adjuncts are helpful . Try your best to keep on reviewing things over and over. Do as much Uworld as you can and annotate in FA as well. I cannot emphasize enough how critical Uworld is. It's not too important to get through all of it (I didn't) or get good scores. Rather make sure you understand the questions that you do.

Good Luck.

Thank you all for the replies! I purchased first aid and have been studying with that for now. I'll purchase Uworld as I get closer.
