Hi all,

I am planning to start Rutgers this fall as a post bac, taking Gen Chem 1 & Bio 1 and Chem 2 and Bio 2 in the spring. Due to work & family commitments, I don't think I can do the class schedule offered (early AM and late PM) at Rutgers. Would I be at a disadvantage taking the four classes at a CC which are offered at 7am, and take Orgo, etc at Rutgers? TIA.

It is perfectly okay to take intro classes at a CC (I did). Just make sure that you have some upper-level courses from a four year school.

I was told by my health advisor to NEVER take science classes at a CC. Whether or not this guy knew what he was talking about, I have no idea.

BTW.. Go Rutgers!

My story again... I tooK ALL my science pre-reqs from a CC and I got into very competitive schools. Good luck!

That's right, Arizona, one of the most competitive out there 🙂

But to the OP, go ahead and do what you must. It is preferred that you not take the bulk of your coursework at a CC, but hey, this is life and we do what we have to do to achieve our goals.

Good luck!

For general sciences- it's okay to take it at a community college- cuz gen chem here is the same as gen chem over at Harvard...the concepts are the same. For upper level classes- I'd highly recommend taking it from a 4-year accredited university.

The CC I attended didn' even offer upper level sciences, so you had no choice but to take them at a 4-year.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it Should I take Physics I & II at a CC as well? Not sure if it's considered a general sci. class. TIA again!
