I just started looking into CCConline. The system they have set up there seems like it's something really great. There are actually 13 community colleges that provide courses online through this system. All are regionally accredited. I don't want this to turn into an online vs. offline debate. I understand the risk in taking online courses. What I want to know is has anyone taken courses at CCConline and successfully applied to med school?

All the schools I want to apply to accept online degrees. I just want some extra input.

Thanks

are you looking to them for everything? most community colleges only offer associates degrees online which isn't going to be enough to get into med school. moreover, is your transcript going to show that it was online? i have a degree from University of Iowa that was setup to be online but i took my sciences in the classroom. basically took "popular music, biblical archaeology" classes like that online to fulfill a degree. if that is the case, I doubt anyone would know. but if it indicates it is online, or is known to be a degree mill (university of phoenix, devry, etc.) for your region, you are going to run into problems.

I'm not really worried about them being online. I've contacted the schools I want to apply to and they acceptmonlinemprereqs. I'm more concerned with the content and if others have taken them. I'd rather go to UNE online for everything but they don't offer financial aid.

Ok but also understand that saying they accept online credits, and saying they look at online credits the same are two completely different things. Most schools accept a minimum of 2.75 GPA but if you are applying to med school with a 2.75, you ain't getting in. Nobody on here is going to be able to give much input because most people know that it isn't worth half-assing. If it doesn't work out then you wasted all the time AND you have to take the classes again. Why not just do it right in the beginning? And in an adcoms eyes, saying you have other commitments usually doesn't work.

Because there is absolutely no chance of me completing all the prereqs any other way. I appreciate the concern, but I'll take my chances with the online courses.

A few schools said online labs don't look as strong and others laughed at the idea that they may not accept online. NSU specifically sounded baffled that I would even ask if they were accepted there. Their answer was "even we offer online courses. As long as the school is accredited that's all that matters."

I wouldn't, but it sounds like you're set on it, so good luck.

Was just going through my old threads. It is crazy how much you can get done in a year and a few months. Since I started this thread I finished both semesters of of Gen Chem, Bio, and Physics with their lab components. All 6 of those classes (30 credits total because of their 3 + 2 system) were transferred to my local university and I was prepared enough to ace organic chem I in the first half of this summer.

Taking three science classes with labs each semester was really rough, but it was manageable. I worked full time and watched my kid every night while my wife worked. If you're in a similar situation or have less on your plate I'd highly recommend this path IF you absolutely need to take online courses.

The labs were just as in depth as labs at university. The only difference was I did them in my kitchen and in my underwear half the time. Lol. I dissected animals for bio, ran acid/base titrations for chemistry, and set up all kinds of stuff for physics. The labs all required formal reports and I pretty much had to figure everything by myself since there wasn't a professor in the room showing me how to set it up. I say this only to say that online classes shouldn't be laughed at or taken lightly any more.

I guess the final test will be next year when I apply to med school. I'm confident that there will be no problem with where my courses come from, especially because of the grades I got and the grades I am getting at my 4 year. I'll be sure to keep this thread updated when the time comes.

Until then, if you have any questions feel free to send me a pm.
