If you got accepted to the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (entering 2006) after being on hold, please let us know. This way, I can start to worry 😉

Best wishes to all!!!!

Bump 😕

Chill, it will be at least until the beginning/middle of next week before they start pulling people off the hold list. If I am not mistaken, current acceptees had through today to decide.

Lol, the bump post was only to try to get the thread to the top of the list. After my first post today, the thread’s position did not move to the top (like I thought it should). Hence I tried to post again. I am not compulsive about this….at least not yet.

While we wait, what some of the other schools you guys are looking at...?
I'm in at UNC (instate)
WL at DUKE
Hold at CCLCM (think thats a WL)

I'm in at Pittsburgh and on hold at CCLCM, it will be a tough decision if I get into Cleveland. Good luck everyone... :luck:

where do you rank cclcm on that list? isnt unc dirt cheap for instate? i actually really liked unc, but as an out of stater had approximately a 0% chance to get in. best of luck to you, and any decisions you may have to make!

I don't really understand the April 15th deadline. It will not be similar to May 15th because those who have been lucky to be accepted to the college can hold on to their acceptance and any other acceptances until May 15th and only then do they have to truly narrow things down to only one acceptance. So, I don't really understand the purpose that April 15th deadline might serve for the waitlisted applicants. If the class is full by now, then all accepted applicants can simply retain their acceptance in CCLCM and other schools.

On another note, and in no shape or form am I even remotely trying to pursuade anyone to think of not going to CCLCM, but does anyone else think about the fact that this program does not have a residency/match list yet? This bothers me a little bit. Having said that, I think CCLCM is a greate school and should I get accepted, which judging by the stats and caliber of those already accepted, it is impossible for me to be pulled off the hold list, I will go with bells on.

Lastly, even if I have completely missed the logic behind the April 15th deadline, I would assume that it would take a lot longer for people's decisions to get to the office at CC and people start getting pulled off the hold list.

Our acceptance letters said that we should plan on giving up our acceptances by April 15 and that if we did not they reserved the right to revoke our acceptances... So, the idea is that people holding CCLCM acceptees should now only be holding CCLCM acceptances... However, I don't know how they're allowed to do that since the AAMC trafficking rules still have the May 15 date....

Which part was your point? That since the AAMC directives are different that people are going to try to get away with holding more than they should? I don't think people would risk doing that without talking to Dr.Franco... Who would want to risk losing their acceptance at CC if they really wanted to go there?

I was agreeing with you on AAMC's May 15th deadline, but I just remembered somehting. Starting today, schools can see how many acceptances we hold (I don't have any now, just a bunch of waitlists), so CCLCM can see if you guys have more than one acceptance.

AAMC may have May 15th as a deadline, but I guess CCLCM is so influential and powerful that it can write its own law and shift the deadline by a month for itself. It is truly an awesome place to be. If I haven't done so yet, congrats on your acceptance.

Thanks... I was so disappointed not to get Mayo, but it's so nice to be in at a similar program... Best of luck getting off the hold list. Even with such a small class size, I think there will be some good movement because of how new it is... Where are you going to go if the hold list doesn't work out?

Hey all, I'm on hold at CCLCM as well... I'll let ya know if I hear anything... btw, I have been doing research at CCF for two years now and have lived in Cleveland for 18 years, so if anyone has questions, feel free to ask away 🙂

Good luck to everyone here on the CCLCM Hold List. During the Revisit Weekend a few weeks ago, Liz Myers told me that they had accepted only 34 students... (2 extra from the 32 class size), all of whom had decided to come to the Revisit Weekend.

From the people I met there, there were some IMPRESSIVE candidates who had been accepted at UPenn, Columbia, Cornell, etc... I wouldn't be surprised if there a lot of openings for this reason! Not saying that CCLCM can't stand up to these schools... =) It's an AWESOME program.

What the freak am I rambling about? Yes, that I wanted to wish everyone GOOD LUCK on the Hold List...

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to you too. Thanks for the news. How was the second look?

No worries. The second look was really phenomenal... I must say that I was really, really, really impressed... I mean, the faculty REALLY pampers you and it's like you're on a pedestal as a medical student, which is NOT the case anywhere else.

The faculty at CCLCM REALLY want to make SURE that everyone does really, really well so that the CCF's name looks good... I mean, the editor of Gray's Anatomy is our anatomy professor for the first two years... that's saying a lot, ya know?

Everything is really state-of-the-art and it seems like they're trying to change a lot of things for the better... I can't help but to feel that CCLCM's curriculum is at the forefront of change... I mean, even Harvard's HST program is trying to model its curriculum change to be similar to CCLCMs.

The more I think about it, this is a really top-notch program and I think 10 years from now, it's going to be one of the most sought-after programs... similar to Mayo's program. Although I selfishly wish that CCLCM would break off from Case Western, this probably ain't going to happen in the next 15 years...

Good luck to everyone... I know this is a stressful time... Keep your heads up!

I was only able to stay for part of 2nd look, but I totally agree with Doko about how impressive it was... The professors seemed so excited about the program and so nice... They really seemed confident about how we were going to do in residency matching especially with the small class size.... And I actually am coming to like the fact that there seems to be a research talk every time we get together... I think having those Dean's Dinners is really going to help keep us passionate about where we're going... And I also agree that in a few years it will be incredibly sought after, similar to Mayo...
However, I think that staying with Case is actually going to help with the residency matching while the program is still getting established, so I'm not sure why a break would be good....

To all the people on the hold list- Good luck again! I really do think there will be a lot of movement- I met people at the 2nd look who were holding acceptances at Mayo, Stanford, Cornell, etc.- And some people just aren't going to be ready to take the leap with a new program, regardless of its excellence and the reputation of the hospital....

OK, now that I've written an essay I'll stop 😛

hey, it's been a long time since I was put on hold by CCLCM but I was similarly very impressed with their program. They have nowhere to go but up. I enjoyed talking to the current students--they seemed bright, nerdy, preppy, and yes, pampered by the school. 🙂

Nerdy? Us???? No way 😀

I interviewed at CCLCM in November. It was my first interview. Afterwards, I kept comparing every school I visited with the CCLCM philosophy...needless to say, all the other schools came up short. However, I felt really overwhelmed by CCLCM...I mean 5 years, summers, few breaks...it seems really intimidating. If I get in (currently on hold), it will be a really tough decision...career-wise, I would be set for life but in terms of quality of life/personal happiness...I don't know...does anyone else feel this way or I am just crazy to think of not accepting CCLCM if I get the chance?

What do you mean "summers" ? You only get one summer in med school anyways =) Also, I feel like if you're not sure if you want to do that 5th year of research, you shouldn't do it b/c otherwise you're going to really hate your life that year.

I must admit that I too have this feeling about CCLCM. Specially if you are out of stater and plan on going home during vacations, then I guess that is not an option at CC. Being on the waitlist since September myself, I feel that even if I do not get in medical school at CCLCM, I can definitely do my postgrad residency there. The resident that gave us the tour during my interview said that CC is the best place for residency because of all the money, you can pretty much write what ever test you want and have access to very smart mentors.

So what's the deal w/ vacations at cclcm?

First weekend since April 15th... someone should hear something... Cleveland is central time right?
If I get in I'm driving up to see the place one more time. If several people get off that want to go visit I'd be willing to schedule at the same time. 👍

GOOD LUCK :luck: :luck: :luck:

Anyone heard yet? the suspense is killing meeeeeeeee :scared:

Bluebirdie,

If you don't get into CCLCM (not trying to jinx you... "hope for the best, prepare for the worst"), where do you plan on going this Fall?

It seems as though they met every thursday throughout the year, dont you think they would wait until Thursday to meet and decide who to take off of the hold list? Just a thought

Cleveland is eastern time, as is all of Ohio.

Be sure to post here when you hear of something.. I am feverishly checking my mail every day

i keep checking my phone every hour or so and NOTHING!!! whoever hears from them, let us all know! and good luck to all 🙂

I doubt they would wait, they'll probably replace withdraws with similar holdees... they may meet this afternoon to run through applicants before calls are made. We'll see!
Too bad last year decisions weren't sent until the end of the month...

I talked to Liz Myers today, and she said that although they set April 15th as the date to commit, some accepted students have not yet corresponded. She said that they are in the process of reviewing hold list files and deciding which people they want to keep in the process and which they want to say no thanks to. Finally, the earliest that they will start to take people off the list will be later this week or early next week...so all of you neurotic people checking your phone or e-mail every hour, don't bother, there is still several days left before people start coming off. Later.

I don't want to be pessimistic either, but if you think about it, if they interviewed 300-350 people, and accepted 34 according to Doko, then 250-300 are on the hold list. Even if they cut that down in half, the chances of being at the very top of that list are small. I'm not counting on it because I don't want to set myself up for a big letdown, so I'm going into it thinking I won't get in....if I get the email/call, then I'd be ecstatic and surprised....thats just my strategy though.

I completely agree. I am not hopeful about CCLCM at all and if, by some miracle, I get in, I'll smile until classes begin.

By the way, I think I was told that only 200 people are interviewed. Regardless, CCLCM is such an awesome place that I peronally consider my interview invitation a pride and an accomplishment. Regardless of what happenes and if we do not get accepted, CCLCM is going to become a huge school and name in medical education and we all can say to our grandchildren that we were chosen for an interview at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, I know that I will.

BS... honor my butt, I didn't travel up there and update for 3 months to be OK with rejection. If and this would be nuts, hey interviewed 280 people for 32 spots, they still have been accepting about 70 people for the previous 200 interviewed. So, 25% its bad, plus I believe I kicked butt on the interview, 32/3.76 shouldn't hurt too bad. They've taken a lot worse.
I agree though, great school I'd love to get in... :luck:

I don't think you should feel OK with rejection- I haven't felt OK with any of the ones I received and I'm not that thrilled with all the waitlists either 😉 But... you also should understand how random admissions to such a small class can be... I know that people with much lower MCAT scores and GPAs than mine got into Mayo this year, while I was waitlisted... I don't think it's a crap shoot, but the smaller the class size the less emphasis is placed on pure numbers...

Who said anything about being OK with a rejection? I said I am glad that they interviewed me that's all. Rejection sucks big time, always.

You didn't-UNC or Bust did.... I was just responding to what he said... But I definitely agree that rejection sucks big time!!!

I don't know why, but I keep checking this thread like 10 times a day!
I don't want to play with your hearts and stuff, since I know this is a sensitive time for everyone... but when I last spoke to one of the administrators at CCLCM (forget his name), he said that he expected quite a bit of movement this year.

While it's true that they interviewed 300+ students this year, that's what he said.

Good luck to y'all... seriously!

But honestly, most of you guys here seem like you would get into some GREAT schools! I mean, UNC has a 32/3.76... that's pretty freaking good, if you ask me... If you guys mind me asking, what other schools are you considering?! Does it compare to CCLCM?
