CCOM Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
definitely a crapshoot.

To my knowledge, nobody has gotten off a CCOM waitlist before May/June. I am really pushing them to look at my file and maybe give me an earlier acceptance from the alternate list. unfortunatley, i think we are S.O.L and just have to wait it out.. with how competitive CCOM has gotten this year, it seems unlikely too many people are gonna be taken off the list. ccom has interviewed a LOT of people, and are still interviewing all the way up till april...

i'm just a bit bummed out bc my other acceptances are at lecom-erie and touro-ny, which are both great schools, but somehow i'm just not jumping up and down with joy to go there.

🙁

Thanks for the honest advice.....I guess I'll just have to wait it out...anybody else have insight?

i finally got my first interview of the year
scheduled it for march 4th
hopefully i get in
currently wait listed at msucom
waiting 4 weeks for the interview is gonna be nerve-wrecking
also, i was never on any pre-interview waitlist or anything
what is all that about?

What is wrong with CCOM, they are really slow. Im still on a pre-interview waitlist and still waiting for them to get back to me. Already sent in my LOI and still nothing. I have already sent in my deposit to TOUROCOM NYC, and still considering NOVA if they put me off the alternate list, and now i just interviewed at WESTERN and i think it went very well (and my first pick of all other schools if i get accepted). I love all these other schools but would give them up for CCOM because of how close it is to my house!!!!!

Couple questions... Is acceptance letter think or thick? how about waitlist?

Hey all, im a student at CCOM, and a couple times a month will be the tour guide to show the interviewees around campus. I know a lot about how the CCOM interview/waitlist system works, so if anyone has any questions at all, feel free to ask me anytime, ill be glad to help!

Do you have any idea how full the class is at this point?

news that class is just over half full makes me really happy
i have a march interview
file was completed late because i was waiting for a doc to write a LOR for me

Makes me feel better too! And yeah, I was in the same situation as you...my DO took almost two months to get my LOR sent. I just found out he sent it last week! 🙁 Hopefully I will still be able to get an interview...

That's funny, me too! My secondary was in at the beginning of Oct, and my DO just sent his letter a few weeks ago, then the school sent them out last week. So, I'm glad to hear that there is still some room!

Ugh.... This whole application season has just not been going my way! I've been checking interact now for the receipt of my LOR's and last week they showed that they got my recommendation letter, but that my physician letter was still expected. Well, I emailed them, as I wasn't home during their business hours. No response, so today I called (sick nanny so I'm home today), and they did get the packet of my letters, but my school apparently re-typed my physician letter. They need a copy of the original, which I completely understand, but all of the other schools have been accepting the packet that my school sent, including AZCOM!

So, now it's going to be another week that I'm not considered. This sucks!

I just received my acceptance letter this past friday ( I interviewed Jan. 15th) and it was thin....like a normal letter. There were only two letters inside. Hope that helps

i am amazed by ccom's efficiency, i got an automatic interview and an acceptance 9 days post interview. i am shocked b/c my mcat VR score was 7 but the sciences were great. what scared me about ccom is how tired the M1s looked compared to all the other schools i have been at...but its a pretty good school, still have 10 days to make a decision

When did you interview? I hear that their admissions committee meets at the end of the month, so if you interviewed around that time that would make sense. As for me, I interviewed on Feb 1st, so the next 3-4 weeks are going to be brutual:luck:

why hasnt CCOM given me a shot off the alternate list?
i'm so frustrated..

honestly i've done everything under the moon to get into this school, starting with applying early this past summer, having above average stats, getting an M.S degree and excelling at it, letters of intent, amazing letters of rec, blah blah blah. one of my interviewers told me i got a perfect score on my interview, he said i was a shoe - in, yet i still ended up on the alternate list.

it's just such a terrible process.

Sorry! Now I am getting nervous because I am waiting to hear from CCOM at the end of this month and I feel like I am going to get on the alternate list/maybe not in at all. I can't believe your interviewer told you you got a a perfect score, I feel like if they aren't going to make the final decision they shouldn't do that. Ahhhhhh, I am so nervous!

Can anyone tell me how long after the 25th they had to wait to get the news? I hope it is the end of Feb. and not March, I don't think I can stand it.

which major hospital did they just loose?

We did not lose a major hospital. The contract with Rush was just renewed...that was cause of some pretty bizarre rumors here on SDN. Anyway, we still have the same great rotation opportunities.

I interviewed mid feb, when i went to interview they specifically said that the committee had already met and that I would get a decision by the end of feb. however i did get the decision back waay earlier than i expected...so maybe you wont really have to wait that long

Does Interact Now notify you once you get accepted? Mike said it doesn't but I've read conflicting stories about it on sdn.

it doesnt notify you but you can check to see whether you can access the matriculation agreeement..

Does anyone else have an interview on Valentine's Day? I am so excited! Any last minute tips? This is my first interview...😳

Caligirl:

So is matriculation agreement supposed to be under "Application status check?" Is it an icon or a link? which page?

When you login to Interact Now! and have been accepted, it'll look different and will provide you a link to review the matriculation agreement.

is CCOM done offering interviews?

has anyone scheduled an interview and then received an earlier one because of a cancelation? Especially those people from Chicago? I have an interview scheduled for March 4th and I want to move it up to dodge the dreaded waitlist.

So does CCOM calls or sends mail? Any new recently on the acceptances?

I live in Chicago and I got my interview moved up by about 2 weeks so I would suggest trying for it. I just called in and told them that I live locally and would be willing to come at short notice and they took all of my info down. I got the call about a week before the interview too so it wasn't too last minut. Good luck!

Did end of January interviewees hear anything yet?

Do CCOM students really have exams every single week? And which days are these exams?

Do CCOM students really have exams every single week? And which days are these exams?

We had a quiz every week, but not necessarily an exam every week. The block schedule is misleading that way. The exam times listed are Monday and Friday at 7:30, but as I said we don't have them every week. On the other hand, sometimes we have more than 2 a week.

WOO WOO!! I've been accepted for the Class of 2012!

Any advice from previous students to help me prepare for the coming years of med school?

What do you wish you knew before you started?

What do you wish you had done prior to the start date?

Thanks :luck: from the irish rocker

wheen did you interview and how did you find out of acceptance?

An admissions rep told me that the committee meeting for the DO program will happen next week. Letters will go out and interact now accounts will change next week as well. She told me to call back at the end of next week if I still have questions.

My fingers are crossed that she's right.

I interviewed on November 7th and received my acceptance letter in the snail mail on the monday after Thanksgiving.... the 26th? It was in a business envelope with 2 sheets of paper.

🙁 so long. I have to send a non-refundable depasit to other school by March 1st.

I was accepted at CCOM for class of 2012 and must say, to those waiting, that there might be a quicker way to find out. My acceptance letter was 2 weeks delayed, given the postmark. I signed onto InteractNow and all the screens changed to "Congratulations" and complete your matriculation checklist type stuff. It did this a full week and a half before I got my letter so I offer this as a way for those eager to possibly get a leg up on whether or not they were accepted. Perhaps it was a fluke, but this is the internet and take this for what it's worth .

That's weird I heard that they actually called those accepted (at least that's what it looked like for those accepted in november and earlier). So is it safe to assume we're not going to get a call if accepted?

I'm not sure if I'll be able to tell with the Interact Now thing or not, since I was already accepted to AZCOM and it's the same homepage.

I hope that admissions woman is right about the committee making decisions next week though, I would LOVE to go to CCOM and this wait is killing me!

i an absolutely green with envy for all of you guys and gals.

i was being reviewed by the adcom today for a possible interview...the final decision was made today.

i am assuming for those of you waiting for a decision that this would have happened today as well.

for those of you that got interview invites how did they come...email or snail mail??

:luck: to all

You can still find out even if you have been accepted to AZCOM. Just go to the matriculation agreement and you should see both the schools on there.. you can select for either school and complete the agreement

for those of you who are officially attending CCOM....where do you plan on living??.....any recommended apartments?.....any advice would be appreciated🙂...the process of trying to find out where to live is daunting especially when you're trying to do it from NJ

Thanks All

I'm sort of in the same boat as I'm moving there from Colorado. I'm looking at getting an apartment in the Oak Park area of town. I'm told it's a nice area to live and the commute to campus is usually 20minutes--you're heading west, out of the city, when everyone's trying to go east. At least that's what one of the students said when I was there for the interview. A few of the docs that I work with now are from Chicago and said Oak Park is indeed a good choice. Plus, the neighborhood has access to "The L" so you can hop on and ride into the city should you choose to do so. Apartments also seem fairly--relatively speaking of course😀--priced in the area. Those are my thoughts anyhow.
