ridiculously expensive and not even a practical measure of competency at all.

Welcome to dentistry. There are so many things that give off scam vibes.ridiculously expensive and not even a practical measure of competency at all.
for endo they make you measure the tooth with a caliper for working length lmfao. imagine extracting a tooth and measuring it to find WL in real life.
absolute joke of a "board exam" only meant to steal more money from dental students who have no choice. honestly embarrassing for our profession.
NY's law of requiring one year residency makes much more sense than this garbage tbh
I had something similar happen. Part of my tooth randomly shattered and the proctor told me straight up "Yeah. This would never happen on a real tooth." They failed me anyways.i failed restorative because my plastic tooth cracked. I was told by the proctor that "experts evaluated the tooth and determined that the crack was iatrogenic as opposed to a defect in the tooth". they failed me and I argued with them... they then said I would be sued in practice if this happened. I told the proctor that patients don't usually come in with class II lesions on plastic teeth 🤣
had to pay like a grand to retake it ..what a joke
It’s all a racket. A pure shake down to take more money from you. It’s just like the corruption in Washington DC, everyone has to get their cut from huge bills or government program bloat. And then people wonder why dentists become unethical.i failed restorative because my plastic tooth cracked. I was told by the proctor that "experts evaluated the tooth and determined that the crack was iatrogenic as opposed to a defect in the tooth". they failed me and I argued with them... they then said I would be sued in practice if this happened.
