Anyone have a line with what is up with Cedars Sinai in LA? Im all the sudden having serious issues with the Path there (from seemingly unbelievable big balls being dropped to merely losing consult cases for 2 months) and Ive never had any problems when Geller was chair.

Are they leaderless? Is this place total chaos? What?

Someone scope it out on the interval trail pls.

Mahul Amin is the new chairman there, not sure how long he has been there but I have seen a few ads for new fellowships there, so I think they are trying to expand. I dunno what that means for your question though.

You send consults there over (in california) stanford, ucsf, ucla and (nationally) mayo and hopkins?

Cedars has VERY reputable staff pathologists including Drs. Nast (renal), Cohen (renal), Geller (gi) and Amin (gu), just to name a few.

and though not directly related, is the only program in the los angeles area with a molecular diagnositcs fellowship.

Occasionally a family member works at some hospital or the patient specifically requests a 2nd from Hospital X, then I send it. The places I personally send my 2nd's to are different of course, but I dont want to get into that on this board.

I have personally seen 2 different hysterical patients in the lobby of the UCLA ED sobbing and begging to be taken to Cedars tho. Take from that what you will.

I think it is because both hospitals are in the middle of such affluent areas and affluent people, in general, don't want to be treated by trainees. I know Cedars has residents, but I seriously doubt a resident was checking to see how dilated Britney Spears was while in labor at Cedars, and I doubt Owen Wilson was first seen by a resident at Cedars after his attemepted suicide.

In general I think people with money and intellectual sophistication prefer private community hospitals over academic training hospitals.
