So I’m doing my rotations at a large academic medical center. The med students here all wear short white coats, the residents long white coats, and the attending have nice gray coats. The nurses wear blue scrubs. Everyone else (nursing assistants, techs, cleaning people all wear green scrubs).

So a few months ago a friend and I were in an elevator when a girl in green scrubs came in. The elevator got jammed for like 10 mins so the three of us were stuck inside. During this time my friend made some dumb jokes like the elevator could fall while he jumped up and down a couple times lol. The girl clearly looked nervous during this which made me feel bad. When we got out of the elevator I asked him wtf that was about and he said the girl looked cute and he was trying to start a convo with her.

I saw the same girl a couple days later on the same elevator since we both arrive at the same time in the morning while I’m doing my surgery rotation. I quickly apologized for my friend being a doofus and then we made small talk until she left for her floor. Over the next month I see her almost everyday at work and I typically just smile and say hi like I do to every acquaintance I have in the hospital.

Then one day things are pretty slow so I go down to the cafe to get some food while watching sports highlights on their big tv. As I go to find a seat I see the girl and decide to sit next to her. For some reason she seemed surprised that I was even sitting with her. But we end up having a conversation and she tells me how she plays competitive volleyball and now her plans are to become a teacher and coach.

About 20 minutes into the conversation she says that she was surprised that I sat next to her since it seemed socially inappropriate to her to talk to anyone wearing a white coat.

Fast forward a few more weeks and this girl and I begin talking a bit more frequently. The idea that she may be in to me deff pops into my mind but I keep waving it off because she’s straight up just better looking than any girl that I’ve ever been with.

Last week we spent some time talking outside in the hospital garage as we were both getting ready to leave. I bit the bullet and asked her out. To my huge surprise she blushed and said yes.

Is this like some white coat celebrity syndrome thing? I never realized how everyone else in the hospital saw us the same way you or I might look at a Lebron James.

Edit: So we went out to eat today. We got food and hung out near the beach. I dropped her off at her parents house and she welcomed me in for a bit. I talked to her dad who had a CSU Chico sweater (my alma mater). We talked about the football team doing poorly and stuff. I said bye to her and her family but as I was getting ready to leave her dad walked me to my car. He shook my hand looked me in the eye and said, "if you ever lay a hand on my daughter." long pause followed by him coughing out the words, Epstein didn't do it

I had a patient request coffee from me last week. They told me they take it with two cream and no sugar. Apparently your hospital is different from mine.

That was disappointing. I was expecting her to be someone famous or at least semi famous (YouTuber or social media person) working at the hospital.

$20 says she flakes out of the first date.

No one, and I mean no one, thinks you are lebron

Au contraire, people in the hospital see physicians as a bunch of aloof individuals. I don't think that particular staff sees you as some kind of celebrity.

I myself has had a few incidents where I started talking to CNAs and they seemed puzzle I was striking a friendly conversation with them. In fact, 2 of them told me that physicians usually don't talk to them. One said: "You guys come here and look at us in the eyes and pretend we don't exist." I of course defended my colleagues. Then I started paying attention a little bit how physicians interact with other people in the hospital, and to my big surprise, a lot of us (mostly males) are not friendly.

It depends on the hospital. At my hospital everyone socializes with everyone. Happy hours, birthday parties, bowling, baby showers, whatever.

Lol the funny thing is that im not even really into basketball. My real name is Elbon Janes which a lot of people hear as “Lebron James”. I regularly have situation like this one yesterday:

Me: Standing down the hallway
Resident: Elbon Janes wrote this note? We have a 3rd year with us?
Nurse: Lebron James?!

So even though it’s not based on looks, people do sometimes mistake me for Lebron

Oh man, I never look the the white coat that way, but I definitely feel empowered now! The journey to become a womanizer has officially begun!

Oh yes the good old fashion celebrity white coat syndrome strikes again. It does more than raise someone’s blood pressure. It heard the girls really like the tachycardia and diaphoresis from anything the resembles something white fashioned as a coat. But in all seriousness congrats, volleyball and an educator!

So besides Epstein, how else can we improve the OP? It has the potential to be a really good copypasta. Emojis? UWorld copyright at the end, the Fresh Prince Theme song? Suggestions?
