Integrin-PI3K-Akt is a well characterized signal transduction pathway. Akt has also been heavily reviewed and has been shown to play a significant role in metabolism. Why for the absolutley life of me then does it seem like I can not find any research linking cellular adhesion to metabolism? It would make sense, if a cell turned cancerous and its adhesion started to go haywire, one way for the body to protect itself against metastasis would be to shut down that cell's metabolism (of course it wouldn't work 100% of the time). I could see profound effects on research if a clear link between a purely mechanical influence, such as cellular adhesion, and regulation of metabolism were ever found. It would change the way we understand how cancer metastisizes. Does anyone know of any papers on this topic? Why can't I seem to find any on this?
