I'm a 2nd semester post-bacc student planning my classes for next semester and wanted to know which upper divs would be beneficial for the MCAT. Should I take cell biology or genetics? Both are offered during the same time, and I have to pick one. Would I be able to self teach either?

Both are useful. Personally, I would choose genetics. Out of personal interest and MCAT applicability.

I would recommend Cell Biology, but you can't go wrong with either or. 🙂

Strictly for MCAT yield Cell Bio is much more applicable. The only thing from genetics I even studied for the MCAT was the concept behind the Hardy-Weindberg equation, and in the end I had 0 genetics related questions on my test. It was loaded with cell bio concepts.

I agree with the majority, I think cell bio will help you much more. But definitely review genetics!

I would recommend taking a handful of practice tests and just make sure you know any high-yield genetics concepts that pop up in your questions.

Definitely agree with @AnatomyGrey12 on hardy, I think I may (or may not...😉 ) have had to use that on my actual MCAT.

Studying for the MCAT is the most beneficial for the MCAT. I mean that seriously because all courses cover more than intended. That said, take genetics because there are more schools that have it as a prerequisite compared to cell biology.
