i've been looking around the forum for a while now and have found answers to most of my questions. i have one last question i'd like to put up for discussion and would greatly appreciate all the feedback anyone can offer.

there are a lot of MPH programs in the usa, many certified and just as many non-certified. i understand that most of the non-certified programs tend to be associated with med schools and are intended to either be a bridge program into a med school (Michigan State University) or as an add on to a student's MD/DO degree. i also understand from roaming the forums that if you do a non-certified program, you cannot go for certification some where else and pursuing a PhD is not going to happen.

my question is this: if someone goes through a non-certified program, what kind of places can they work, what kind of places can't they work? are there organizations that won't look at a non-certified degree, are there organizations that don't necessarily care? is the certification only important within the USA - for example, what if i wanted to work abroad for the most part of my career?

i'd appreciate any answers or clarifications if i've made any mistakes in the information i've collected from here.

I don't know too much. Most of the jobs in california that require you to have to have an MPH also require it to be from a certified school or program (CEPH).

I don't know too much about non certified vs certified but I do know that MPH students have a hard enough time finding jobs in certain disciplines (I have seen this on the forum multiple times) that I feel like you are decreasing your employment opportunities if you chose non-certified. I know someone who went to a non-certified program and graduated with near a 4.0 and after 6 mos still couldn't find a job. This scared me enough to not even consider non-certified as I have had more than enough experience with lay-offs and unemployment. Nothing is worse than going in debt for a school and then not being able to find a job after, it's a scary feeling. Hope this helps! You could try asking non-certified programs for their employment information or talk to alumni
