Hi all
For those of you who got accepted and got requested to do the Certiphi background check, I am curious as what the whole process is like? I have performed a search on the forum and found some threads but the info is still quite unclear. So when you got accepted, Certiphi will contact you to do a background check on you, correct? You will then provide them all the info they ask you (or will they find out all of the info by themselves?) How thorough is the report? Is it as thorough as an employment background check? Do they ask for references? Does it include all addresses, all employment history, your credit score, everything you have done in the past, including traffic tickets etc....? Or it just a report of criminal records and as long as you haven't violated anything, you should be fine? I don't want to gain acceptance, and have it taken taken away just because schools found something in my background check that they don't like (I dont' have any criminal record of any sort though, except one or two traffic tickets.) Thank you

Traffic violations are not criminal but considered a misdemeanor. They will not affect getting into dental school. And if they do...well I'd never attend a school that considered that a make it or break it area. Lol Everyone gets tickets. I'd be worried if you were ever arrested or charged with something "major"...yes. But otherwise (traffic violations) - no.

Traffic tickets are not misdemeanors...they are violations. A misdemeanor is a crime.

did you manage to get them dismissed?

I had a racing ticket (Speeding 30+ mph in Ontario is considered "racing"). It's an automatic 1 week license suspension + huge ticket (2500$ minimum). I pleaded guilty because there was a possibility of jail if I went to trial!! This was in 2008 and it's off my record. It is in no way a criminal offence or anything, just a traffic ticket....

Don't sweat it, Dom, everyone's got a bit of a lead foot.

Sorry it was late and I worded that weird. They are all "crimes" - violations, misdemeanors and felonies. But a traffic violation is not something that should keep you out of dental school. It's the lowest on the totem pole so to speak.
