Okay so Chad is the man we all know this, but this one thing he said in a QR video has me stumped and I am not sure if it is correct.

In QR42-Probability, he was going over Rain problems (ex: 90% chance of rain for each of the next 3 days, what is the chance that it rains today and tomorrow." He said that it is 9/10 x 9/10 because they are NOT independent events. However, the formula for independent events IS to multiply, and this does seem like an independent event situation since the weather of one day shouldn't affect the weather of the next. Thus, was it just a verbal mistake on his part, and he should've said that since it IS an independent event, we multiply? Thanks.

I think he means like it has to rain on all 3 of the days. So if it doesn't rain on the first day, then it all doesn't count. This makes each one dependent on the last one. so it has to rain monday, tues, and wed, making each day dependent on the previous day. - Based on what you said he does, i'm pretty sure that's what he means; i haven't seen the video.

I think that's what he means. So do the problem his way assuming he means what i assume i think he means because never have i ever seen the phrasing so weird.

The thing is, the way he describes it is that it has an equal chance of raining on each of the days, and that chance is 9/10 (90%). Thus, I'm pretty sure they are independent events (hence his calculation) and it was just his wording that was incorrect. I just wanted to confirm this with anyone on here that's happened to view the video.

Also, I saw your original post: I wasn't attacking him in any way, just was merely looking for a clarification.

come on chad doesnt make mistakes he is the chuck norris of science...im pretty sure if he says something incorrect then scientific fact just changes...lol sry i had to take a break from the studying
