Chance in top program?

I have looked at the documents published from NRMP, but I'm not sure what it takes to get into a top Psych residency...

Brief rundown of my application:
from a southeast school
mostly PCs in first two years, H in medicine, peds, pscyh, OB clerkships
Step 1: mid 220s
Step 2: high 240s
lots of volunteer, leadership activities, involved in organized medicine
but no research as of yet
fingers crossed, good LORs

any chance for a top program???

I would change the yes to highly likely if you have specific program in mind. There is always a chance at a specific program that an interview doesn't go well, they have too many excellent applicants or you just get overlooked for whatever reason.

I don't think anything is automatically off the table. Just apply where you want and see who invites you.
I would also caution you not to get too hung up on getting into a "top program" though.
I am of the opinion that Psych is not the sort of field where prestige should be a big consideration. There will still be people who don't think you are a "real doctor" because you're a psychiatrist even if you did graduate from Johns Hopkins and did your time in the ICU in intern year. It's arguably more helpful to do your training at a program in the place you want to eventually live with a focus on the kind of psychiatry you want to practice than to go to the biggest name place you can.

There will still be people who don't think you are a "real doctor" because you're a psychiatrist even if you did graduate from Johns Hopkins and did your time in the ICU in intern year.

But you know that you are a physician and this is most important.

And I agree with the rest of Peppy post.

I think the answer depends on what you mean by "top program"...

(Not that I want to invite THAT discussion into the forum again!)

Can anyone ballpark the cutoff numbers for applying to the upper tier programs?
