so it is mid October now. I have applied to 20 schools and have only gotten one rejection (Midwestern AZ) and haven't heard back from any other schools. This is my second year applying. I got one interview last cycle from Touro and got wait listed. Since then I have started my masters and will have it completed this upcoming May.

oGPA: 3.25
BCPM GPA: 3.22
Grad GPA: 4.0 (16 hrs of Grad courses)
Undergrad GPA: 3.19
Undergrad BCPM GPA: 3.10
DAT score: AA: 19 TS: 19 PAT: 21

I was a student athlete in college and was part of an organization as well so I have a lot of EC and volunteering under my belt. I have been volunteering with Texas Mission of Mercy and Im going to start research with UTMB in January. Im doing very well in my masters so at this point, I don't know what else I can do especially considering I got an interview last cycle without the masters.

If anyone can guide me or tell me if theres any hope for me this cycle, Id appreciate it.

Is your Masters in hard science and a thesis? If not, I hope you're in a SMP. What is your list of schools? Did you talk to Touro to see why you fell short?

Hey, I am from Texas. I got an interview at Touro, I think we have the same type of EC's and volunteering. (I did around 600 hours of volunteering including Mission of Mercy, 350 hours working as an RDA, and I have around 250 hours as a research assistant at the UT Health School of Dentistry at Houston, I am the VP of my ASDA chapter, I was a STEM tutor for underserved elementary schools, and I conducted an oral health learning project at an elementary school) However, I think the DAT is holding you back. If I were you I would retake it. I am also wondering what @DMDDDSHopeful is.. However, I still think your DAT score is holding you back. I got an interview at Touro with a 3.66 undergrad overall GPA and 3.35 BCPM, and I had a 20AA, 21TS, 24RC. In case you were wondering what kind of people Touro invited for interview.

Additionally, we have a lot of time before this cycle is over. I know it really sucks to wait but unfortunately that's all we can do 🙁 I am sure you will get at least a couple, if not a few, interviews. Just give them some time.. no one knows how all this madness truly works.

Its a pre health specialization masters in Biological Sciences so it is all upper level science courses. I haven't talked to Touro or any school yet but if it is recommended then I will give them a call

Thank you!! haha. I just wanted to give you a snapshot of my application so you can see what the schools may like? I knew that helped me a lot when people provided that. You will definitely be hearing back with the school list you have. Just give it some time!! This process is too unpredictable ! Great list by the way.

Sooo... I went to a top 20 school and my GPA was a 3.0 and I didn't do that great in the sciences 🙁. Consequently I retook these courses and more dental reqs at a state school where my GPA is a 3.6. My overall science GPA is still low due to the averaging system the ADEA uses to calculate GPA for repeated courses. Do you think I might have some leverage because of the difference in difficulty of the two schools?

No. AADSAS does not have a formula that takes into consideration a school and how "difficult" they feel it may be against others. That kind of system would never work. Now if you're asking if admissions will give you leverage if you went to Ivy League, perhaps. Ivy League is known to inflate grades so that could hurt you if you did bad. In the end, I have to say there is no leverage, but it's a nice thought.

Yeah thank you for the advice. I highly doubt I can get my oGPA up to yours unless i do another masters. However, I think I can get around the same sGPA as yours by the time I'm done with the masters. Do you know how heavily dentals schools take in to consideration a science based masters GPA when making a decision? Trying to see if the masters will get me interviews for next cycle once I'm comletely done with it

I definitely think they weigh it considerably. A strong background in the sciences can only be seen as a major plus.
