Hi everyone; trying to get a realistic view of my chances.

Grades: 3.7X cGPA; 3.9X SciGPA; MCAT - 30 - 9/10/11

Non-trad - left law school after 1.5 years to pursue medicine

*Did all pre-reqs in 1.5 years (4.0)
*350 hours of research with a large public grant (no pub)
*150-300 hours of volunteering ER
*50+ hours of shadowing multiple physicians
All this while working 40-60 hrs/week (non-medical)

Schools: Western, UCI, UCR, UCLA, USC, UCSD, Loma Linda

I am locked in southern california. I might cut UCSD/UCLA because of how huge a reach I am.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

Do you have any ties to the regions that support UCI and UCR?
From / born / raised / live in orange county. Have lots of family in Inland Empire also. My research was at UCI, and I have a strong letter from the research leader (who happens to be a director/prof at UCI med).

Not a UCR grad though, so that leaves like 25 spots =(

You might want to look into Loma Linda before you apply there. You might not fit their mission.

Honestly, giving up alcohol for 4 years wouldn't be that hard for me, and an added religion class isn't a big deal to me either. I'll still apply and see

The < avg MCAT will hurt at the UCs. Do you meet the needs of the Inland Empire, as my colleague gyngyn likes to ask (for UCR).

You should be OK for Loma Linda, and Western, maybe USC.

LL has a 105 year history of seeing through this.
You are 10th% for USC.
For any real chance you need a bigger geography, or adding Western.

I didn't mean "you won't like it" as much as "they won't take some random person who'll put up with the sermons just to get in." Not saying this is you, just saying I believe they select candidates who are committed to their mission, and have demonstrated that commitment.

Sorry been a long day. I went to religious private school from pre-school through high school. Though I am not SDA, I am saying, a religion class is not unfamiliar to me. I do occasionally drink alcohol, but giving it up to become a doctor is a non-issue for me. I am hoping for the best.

Western is on my list. Do you think it is a waste of money to even apply at UCSD/UCLA? Finalizing my list now.
