Chances after 6 waitlists?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't retake the DAT. For schools who value RC highly you're not going to impress them, but for those who don't your DAT is plenty good.

Don't worry about your interview skills, you are a very likable person.

Don't worry about getting in. You're going to get in if you're on the wait list this early in the game at 6 places.

Just keep kicking ass at the Post-Bacc and wait for the acceptances to come.

i personally think that someone with 6 waitlists spots has a very good chance of getting in somewhere.

edit: o yeah dude...you got waitlisted at nova, usc (both fly thru their waitlists), lecom and une (new schools=a lot of people drop), and oklahoma..which means that you're bound to get accepted, b/c i remember reading that they've accepted almost everyone from their waitlists from the past few years.

i don't know too much about minn, but their OOS tuition is crazy expensive so thats prob another school that goes thru their waitlist quickly.

i think you're set my dude.

+1 (just my two cents, from what I've seen and read the past few years... you're in good shape)

With the shotgun approach to ds application it is unlikely that your letters of interest or intent will be taken seriously.

Do schools know how many other schools/what other schools you've applied to? They're not privy to that information, are they?

I honestly dont think so. I called admissions at a particular school and told them I am currently waitlisted at 6 schools and would drop my application to all schools if accepted. I gave them my word I would do so and I will send a letter of intent to the assistant dean or dean of admissions to confirm my intent.
The other 5 schools I will send a serious letter of interest. Again, I did not make the first wave and hope to make the 2nd wave and not have to wait anymore.

Whatttt who'd you speak to to say all this? thats some action

Admissions coordinator or director. She noted it on my file

I don't remember asking that but I think they would not disclose it to applicants

I guess some schools let u know and some schools not, I saw a different thread where someone said he was informed of where yhe was on the waitlist

Really? How do you know that? Have you talked to an admissions director?

I assumed that schools only found out if you've been accepted to other schools at the deadline for not holding multiple spots later in the cycle (because there is a deadline for choosing one school out of all you've been accepted to, unless you want schools finding out you're holding down multiple spots). AADSAS randomly letting all the schools know where you've been accepted doesn't make any sense to me.

Because they have crazy computer programs linked to AADSAS. They all have their own programs. I can't imagine they are completely oblivious. My last interview they actually asked me about other schools I've applied to, even though under "which schools have you applied to" I only listed a few. I added more later and they saw that as well.

Yeah, but okay, here's why I don't think they really know: if they did, I have no doubt it could actually factor into admissions decisions. For ex, we know that KittySquared got into great 10 schools, so we're gonna offer this spot to someone with similar stats/EC's because Kitty might turn us down, considering she is already in at 10 awesome places and one of them could be her top pick.

I think if adcoms actually knew where you were admitted or waitlisted, we'd see it reflected in admissions (eg throwing money at people they really want, which does happen sometimes, but not always and not at all schools).

I don't know, the whole knowing where you're accepted/waitlisted/interviewing thing just doesn't seem right to me.

^You misread what I said. I don't think each individual school knows ultimately whether you're accepted or waitlisted. But they can definitely see which schools you applied to.

The AADSAS claims that schools CANNOT see where else you've applied to and do not divulge that information in anyway to various dental schools...they told me the only way for a school to know where else you've applied is if you tell them. However, it is not unheard of for dental schools to talk about an applicant with each other and the AADSAS cannot control that. If an applicant applied to 51 dental schools, they are indeed an outlier among applicants and that information is more likely to be leaked or spread. The average Joe wouldn't have to be (although) should be honest about the number of schools and there would most likely be no consequence...it would just be too much effort to check up on everyone, although I'm sure they have means to figure it out if they wanted to.

Also, for at least LECOM and NOVA if you divulged how many schools you applied to (they probably didn't know where you got interviews) then it is unlikely that they are your number one choice. Even if you said they were, it would seem not believable, or highly unlikely. These two programs because of being new (LECOM) and high cost (NOVA) have many applicants who decline their acceptances and schools have to report those numbers so they want to avoid it as much as possible. They probably didn't want to take a risk on an applicant who might get many interviews/acceptances. I still do think there is a high likelyhood you will get accepted by a few of them however. Make personal contact and keep updating them on your ongoing activities.

Got a post interview at BU just now
Congrats. Nail that interview. You're still in much better standing than a lot of other applicants. Just another perspective to look at things.

Well said!! Goodluck! I really am hoping for you :xf:

Some of the schools asked and told them that schools that accept me r my top choices. Schools that took a gamble on my rc score are my top choices. I applied that many schools to show that i have deternination to get in this cycle. I want to show that I have done my best applying.

👍

There are two sides to every coin...some may call it a shotgun approach, while some interviewers see it as determination and commitment to a career in dentistry.

Sorry for misinterpreting! 😳

That's interesting and actually makes sense to me. AMCAS also doesn't let medical schools see where people applied. It's really not the school's business, but I wouldn't hold it past schools to talk about certain applicants...just not the majority of them. Maybe one or two if two adcom members know each other. But still, in all likelihood the schools don't know how many schools aznboi89x applied to.

Good luck! :luck:

That's true. I don't see why someone with no constraints on where they want to live shouldn't apply to almost every school, and don't really get why some people were making fun of aznboi89x.

got a phone call from LECOM, I'm in!!!!

i thought i would go down in history as the guy who got rejected by all 51 schools!

A school I interviewed with said that they accepted almost all of their waitlist last year, which was about 15 people. I think your odds are good.

Congrats! !! Now you can finally relax! 🙂

Been hoping for good news for you!! Congratsssssssssss!!!!

I have been waitlisted at 6 schools: Oklahoma, Minnesota, LECOM, Nova, UNE, and USC.
I told my interviewer at UCSF that it was my #1 choice regardless of my residency in Texas and got rejected. What do you guys think of my chances now after being waitlisted at all of these schools? I really thought my odds are in my favor since these schools took a chance on me and have overlooked my RC score.

I have a 16 RC 18 BIO 20 AA 20 TS 21 PAT and graduated with CHEM BS. Still attending my university as a POST-BAC taking few classes. BCP is 3.3

I would suggest you re-take your DAT. Doing this would only behoove you in the long run. Your chances of ACCEPTANCE should increase exponentially as a result. Hang in there!

If I were you I would e-mail all the schools my sincere intention in attending that school and if you have the audacity, I would also inquire why I was put on waitlist.

This post makes me laugh. I know you are trying to be helpful, but you missed the last 15 posts in this thread lol.
