I had a bad sophomore year where I had 3 C's (biochem, physiology) and 2 B's (zoology), this first semester of junior year I retook biochem and got an A, but I got a B in physics. My GPA is 3.4 and BCMP is about the same. I'm hoping on getting a 35+ on MCAT (taking in april), as a WI resident, anyone know my chances for UW-Madison? I'm guessing that's probably the best school that I could get into, I probably won't even get a secondary from schools like UCSD.

FYI, schools like Harvard, Stanford, Yale, JHU, etc. send out secondaries to everyone who submits an AMCAS to them. However, the UC's do screen. A 3.5 and above does not exclude you from admission - a lot of people are at that GPA and get accepted. But I wouldn't jump the gun with projecting an MCAT score just yet (it's a beast of an exam). Just try your best, have some good EC's, and apply broadly. I suggest you pick up a copy of the MSAR (www.aamc.org) to get a better clue as to your chances. There are a number of private schools that would be a good fit for a 3.5 and 35+ GPA (don't know much about WI schools).

actually soph yr is common for many people's grades dropping off. That's what my interviewer told me. He noticed my gpa was lower soph yr and he said for some reason many people's gpas dropped then. I had around a 3.4 something gpa too at the end of my soph yr, and I worked hard my last two years and did better...and pulled my gpa up to a 3.6. So just put your energy into working hard in the following semesters.

The Sophmore Slump....

I wonder what is the reason for the soph slump. I think it deserves an intersting psycho-analysis. Anyone? Lol

LOL, Well if you did very well your first semester. I think there is no way to go but down.
I am attempting to combat the Sophmore Slump with some good ol' inspiring shawdoing experiences during the summer.
