Hi all,
I am a Michigan resident, currently attending University of Michigan.

Biology/Evolutionary Anthropology major
GPAc is probably around 3.6
GPAs is probably around 3.4, possibly lower
(I transferred from Eastern and I haven't sat down to calculate my GPA yet and I'm taking 3 science courses this semester)

I took the MCAT in the Summer and got a 24 🙁( I didn't study very hard and I was working a lot. Needless to say, I'm retaking the MCAT, currently scheduled for May 12th. I have been studying a lot and I'm currently taking PChem and Orgo II lab (not the lecture), so I will have a bit of review in there as well. I'm really worried though and I'm historically not a good test taker (obviously).

I have awesome ECs:
Taught 2 courses in intergroup relations (class about diversity)
Volunteered in a homeless shelter through a program at my school, I was the site leader
I've been working as an ER scribe for the past 2 years
I have a research paper that is currently under review for publication (primate genetics/behavior)

I will have awesome recommendation letters including 1 from a DO who I've worked with a lot in the ER

I really really want to go to med school on the west coast 😍 , but I know my chances are slim to none to get into an MD school in Cali. I'm totally fine with getting my DO and I'm actually starting to prefer it over MD, since I like their philosophy.

Question: What are my chances at getting into TUCOM or WesternU? Should I push my MCAT to May 31st in order to have 2.5 weeks of no-classes studying? This would require me driving to Virginia since they are booked in my state and surrounding areas. I don't mind going to Virginia so much as paying the $80 and travel expenses would be a bummer.

Any help would be great! I'm a little unclear as to why WesternU tends to favor Cali residents despite the fact that they're a private school?

Thanks!!

You should be good to go with a higher MCAT(28 or higher). Everything else looks good. I was accepted to Westernu with a 3.33cgpa, 3.15sgpa and 30 MCAT. Good luck

Thanks, were you out of state?

I PMed you as well (mostly cuz I think I know you!)

Make sure you can get that MCAT score up, if your not scoring around 30 on your practice tests consider postponing... Keep in mind that a lot of people reschedule at the last minute so test dates may open up near your location. Good Luck!
