Hi! I was wondering about my chances of getting in for the 2019 cycle.
Major: psychology
GPA : 3.18
Prereq GPA : 3.5ish
Extracurriculars: EOF first generation college student, women leadership achievement, youth mentor for low income neighborhood, student services scholar
Work: barista for 2 years, assistant for 2 years,
Observed: 50+ hours (hand therapy, pediatrics, geriatrics)
Intern at a preschool for children with disabilities for 1.5 years, worked at a summer camp for adults with disabilities and currently a community support professional for adults with disabilities (all these are under the same organization)

Im applying to ALOT of schools (10+) but my main choices are Kean University, Rockhurst University, SUNY Downstate, Seton Hall, Brunel University

Hi! I just want to start by saying there is always a chance of getting in 🙂 it will be a little more difficult (lots of applicants with amazing GPAs and experience) but as long as you keep at it, you’ll get there.

My overall cumulative GPA is the same as yours, and I was able to get two interview offers last round. I was ultimately waitlisted, and am reapplying this year, but it really just depends on the school.

If you take the GRE and have great scores, that will balance out your lower GPA for many schools. There are also schools that only look at your GPA for your last 60-90 credit hours.

Your experience has a great start but I’d keep at it! Keep building your hours, keep building connections. Make sure you have strong letters of recommendation and a killer personal statement. Keep your application strong where you can.

I know applying to school is expensive- but keep an open mind. You’ve got the right idea of applying to a lot of schools to up your chances. Also be open minded to the idea that you might have to re-apply again next round. It can be disheartening not to get accepted into a program right away, but applying two years in a row also shows commitment and can work out in your favor. Good luck 🙂

Hey there, I agree with KnightOT! I have a 3.27 GPA and I am nervous about applying too. The advice I was given and will give to others is to rack up those observation and volunteer experiences! Those show you're committed to the field and a well rounded individual. Good luck🙂
