Hi everyone!

Wanted to start this thread for anyone applying to SJSU this cycle.

How's everyone's application going? I plan on submitting OTCAS as soon as my letters are in and mailing my documents to the department the week before Oct 1st. Would anyone know if it's better to apply to GAPE as soon as you can or if that's something you can comfortably do after completing your application with OTCAS and the OT department?

Feel free to share your progress and ask any questions. Hopefully we can all help each other in some way 🙂

Hi, do you happen to know how many pages/words should we write for the personal statement?

Sent in my application today! Fingers crossed 🤞🏽

Hi everyone! I have sent in my GAPE and OTCAS applications, so my application is now complete. I am so nervous. Will be updating!

hey everyone ! has anyone heard anything or heard when we might be hearing something ?

Yes! Best of luck everyone! This is my second time applying. The first time; I sent it in right before the deadline for Fall 2025 round. Then I heard back from Gigi that the spots were all taken by January 😭😭😭😭.
This time I sent my application on October 1st! 🤞🏽

Hi @krysthehopefulOT! I'm so sorry that happened to you but it was nice of Dr. Smith to let you know! At least you had everything ready for Oct 1st this year! I sent mine in on 10/23... I was still wrapping up the community service hours in the beginning of the month. From the info call in Sept it seemed like a lot of applicants were aiming for 10/1 submission, so I hope I wasn't too late. Good luck to all of us!

Hi Friends! I asked our graduate advisor when we may hear back and she said, “Our master's program is undergoing reaccreditation, which has delayed Dr. Smith's review of the applications. She is hoping to begin sending acceptance letters later this month.”

Anybody hear back? Looking over the previous threads from the last cycle, folks started to hear back around now.

Not yet! Came here to ask the same thing! Has anyone heard from other programs? I was accepted to one program that wants a deposit by Jan 9th - wondering what to do in case SJSU doesn't let us know by then..might have to put down a deposit to save my spot there just in case..

Congrats!!!! Can I ask your stats if you don't mind?
no worries !

i applied oct 1 and had a GPA of 3.8. bachelors degree with psychology and two AA with psychology and kinesiology.
hours: almost 180 hours. like 80 at a pediatric and 120 from an adult
prerequisites: all done and average of 3.7 GPA
LOR: 1 from professor, 1 from work supervisor, 1 from OT at internship
in my personal statement i added that i personal experiences with the adult and pediatric clinic. also added that i am a teacher aide that deals with special needs kids. i dont remember what else there is but essentially this was my application

I wanted to ask the group before I went ahead and did it. So last year, I applied at the very end of the window to apply. I didn’t hear back for a while. I finally got a hold of Gigi around May who had let me know that the whole program was full by February. Do you think that I should just go ahead and email her and ask her when we should all hear back by? Like should we all know if we got in or not around February or do you think it’s in bad taste?

maybe wait till mid january or more end of january. mostly because they’re on winter break right now and spring semester doesn’t start until end of january so it would be difficult to reach anyone

Hi everyone! Still waiting to hear back. Applied on October 2nd. Does anybody else have an intent to enroll hold on there account? Waiting eagerly for an email! Hopefully this week! 🤞🏽

Still waiting to hear back too and applied on the Oct 1st! Has anyone that's already been accepted apply after the 1st? I'm assuming they review it in order of submission and wondering if I should cut my losses :/ I got accepted into another program that starts on the 20th but was trying to hold out for SJSU

Hi @BayareafutureOT I also have an 'intent to enroll hold' on my account, but when I click on the 'admissions' tab, the status still says 'department review.' -- @mistym I also was accepted to another program that requires a deposit by Jan 9th, was hoping to hear from SJSU by then! Fingers crossed for all of us!
@krysthehopefulOT I don't think it's poor form to email and ask! I'm curious too. Let me know if you do reach out and hear back. On a thread from last year, I read some people who applied in late Oct (like me) didn't receive their acceptance letters until March..

Has anyone heard anything or reached out? I’m stressing about not hearing back. Hopefully we all get good news soon ❤️

I haven’t heard back just yet 😭Sent the email to check in but didn’t hear back. I figure they are super busy. I’m really hoping to hear back soon too!

Same, have not heard back yet! Fingers crossed! Does anyone know how many do they admit every year, or how large are their cohorts?
Also do you mind me asking what type of skills class did anyone take? I'm taking a drawing class this semester, but I'm now wondering if I should have taken it earlier. Oh, well! I had a really hard time finding a class that covers 40h ( without it taking over my whole schedule) . I'm planning to take two 20h drawing classes

I called earlier, the department said we should hear back through email next week and others will get letters in the mail. So I’m assuming admitted students will get email and rejections through letters. Not 100% sure just how I am taking it.
Also I took beginning art last semester at my local community college. I have all my pre reqs completed. I don’t think it’s a big deal that you don’t have it done. Just as long as you have it done before you start the program. I just finished neuroanatomy. Really hoping for good news for all of us! 🤞🏽

I think I heard 80. It’s very limited. I could be wrong but I know it’s a very limited co-hort

Not yet. Has anyone emailed the department and gotten a response? Im not sure how much longer we have to wait.

Did anyone apply anywhere else? Have you heard back from other schools? I want to stay local so SJSU has been my only hope!

I’ve applied to 2 other schools and have already heard back from both. I was hoping to hear from SJSU before I make a deposit for one of the schools this weekend to secure my spot, but I don’t think that’ll happen 😅 I’m really hoping for SJSU!

Same here! I was accepted to another Bay Area school (SMU) but especially with the new administration's changes to grad loans, I don't want to go 150k+ into debt with private loans! I've decided to decline the offer to SMU and if I don't get into SJSU, apply again next year...

Based on last year's thread, some applicants who applied in October didn't hear back until March, so I am holding onto that as hope. They accepted less tha 70 students in 2024 (based on website). I wish it were a bigger cohort 🙁 Really hoping for good news for all of us!

Yea SMU cost of attendance is insane! thats why I couldnt apply

Hey guys! I've been constantly checking back and forth from SJSU, but no luck. I applied as a re-applicant for this year because I turned in my application at the end of December of last year for the 2024-2025 cycle, which was way too late as the seats were full. I hope I can get in this time.

I also got accepted provisionally in an MOT program in San Diego, but it's super new; so I think they pretty much accept anybody. My only regret is that I wasn't able to join the spring 2026 cohort because I am missing a human development pre req course. Also, the tuition is only around 20k if you are accepted in the spring 2026, so yea I am super bummed. I talked to the admission counselor, and he said that he can moved my application to the fall 2026, but the tuition will be around 97k. Not sure if I should even go. I am currently taking a human development course for that school in case I decide to go there.
