Hi guys. I am going to be a senior and i just took the april mcat got a dissapointing 24R (7 phy, 8 bio, 9 verb). I am taking aug mcat but want to see where i stand with my current score. I have a 3.6 avg with a 3.5 sci. I am in the honors program at my school, have completed a solid hospital rotation internship, have extracurrics, and will be doing an honors thesis at school. Do I have a good shot at getting into a D.O. school or do i need to seriously think carrib?? i truly want to be an osteopathic doc and hope i dont have to go m.d. in the carribean. i was so psyched to find what a d.o. really is and i think it fits my personality and attitude towards medicine perfectly. any opinions, good or bad, are welcome. thank you so much.

I think you'll get in somewhere, just apply to at least ten schools, you will be pretty pleased with the results.

He should have NO problem getting into an osteopathic school.

Study and bring up the mcat a few points since you're retaking it anyway and you'll probably get in somewhere. But like someone else said...apply to as many as you are willing to go to.

I'd avoid the offshore schools for the most part if I were you.

Good luck 🙂

You'll probably get in, but I'd like to make a small point - just bc you don't get into a DO school doesn't mean you can't practice "DO principles." It's not like MDs don't look at people "holistically" and I'm sure you can learn to somehow incorporate OMM into your practice by taking some supplemental classes somewhere along the line. But your #s and EC look good, so you should be fine.

Thank you for the info everyone...Makes me feel a lot more confident

Not always.

YESSS ALWAYS

Nate and I are a bit older and maybe that is why we come to this conclusion.

ANYTHING YOU WANT YOU CAN GET. If you don't get in the front door. Go around the back side and try to get in through the window.

So I should keep calling Jennifer Garner?
I don't know why she won't call me back.

I think you should apply early with your 24 and you'll be in good shape - as opposed to applying 3 - 4 months later with a 26... (unless you're gonna get up to a 29+, just go ahead and apply and you should get in)

Your MCAT score isn't so bad that you wouldn't be able to get into an allopathic school if you worked hard on improving it. Some carib schools have even higher standards than your average DO school. So, don't be so biased trying that route. Only go DO if that is what suits you. It shouldn't even come down to you not being able to get into a US allopahic school. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't look at DO schools as a 2nd option. There are lots of very good DOs and carib doctors. If you like the DO philosophy, try to go that route regardless of your scores.

YES I AGREE!!!!! This is a secret to life.
Anyone who wants something bad enough will get it. But wishing for and working towards are different. I try to explain this to my family who tend to consider themselves cursed. "It's the family curse.." Whatever, no curses here. Life is what it is, just because you weren't given the straight path to lucky town doesn't mean you can't find it. I can do anything as well or better as the next guy (girl), but that doesn't mean I won't have to work harder for it. If you want it bad enough you'll make yourself good enough. Next thing you know, you're realizing that there are no unattainable goals in life, but plenty undesirable goals!

Johnny, maybe if you moved to where she lived and became a famous actor she'd return your calls. Acting not your forte? How about managing? No wait, I hear she's into working out, maybe you could be a trainer. If you really wanted it you could do it...
Just wait around for Ben to go to the strip club and offer to help, she'll be butter...
Ok the only reason I know this stuff is that stupid Entertainment tonight show that comes on at like 12am...
