I'm a 4th year at a very reputable DO school, targeting former AOA/clearly DO-friendly programs. I will go literally anywhere for residency.

Step 1/Level 1: Pass on first attempt

Step 2: 26x

No Level 2 score yet, honestly not sure if it even matters anyway

1st quartile in preclinical, honored every 3rd year rotation. MSPE comments are kinda "meh," despite the honors because the grading at my school is based entirely on the shelf. No overtly negative comments though.

As far as LORs, I'm not sure how good they'll be. Coming from a DO school with no home program and having no personal connections to surgeons, I can't say I've had any real mentors. I have 1 letter so far from a community gen surg attending from 3rd year. Will most likely have a 2nd one also from a community general surgeon that I'm rotating with now. My 3rd LOR I'm hoping to get from a sub-I next month.

Other than academics, I feel like the rest of my app is looking pretty weak. I am a non-traditional med student so some of my ERAS will be various gap year jobs, none of which are particularly interesting IMO.

As far as ECs, I have a few kinda fluff things like being a mentor to a first year at my school when I was a second year. I have one activity that might be seen as pretty interesting that involves a medical device for health/wellness but my involvement is super minimal.

Research wise, I have 1 pub but it's an abstract from many years ago that came from me volunteering in a lab doing basic science research. I had a previous job in contract medical device research but no pubs out of that. I am an author on a lit review that is technically finished but not submitted to a journal yet, and the PI is apparently dicking around with it so I don't know if it will be submitted/published in time.

I have 1 somewhat unique hobby that I can talk about at length.
