I posted and Reddit and someone suggested I post here:

I've just calculated my cGPA and sGPA using an AMCAS calculator:

cGPA: 3.41

sGPA: 3.19

I am URM

The trends are as follows: Picture1Picture2 Picture3Picture4

Am I completely screwed (I don't want to give up but I just feel as though I may be fighting an uphill battle)?

I took a full length AAMC practice and got a 509, before prereqs- I'm shooting for a 515.

What schools should I look into and explore?

Ok, but what about extenuating circumstances? Not everyone attennding college had a rosy experience. I did the best I could given my circumstances.

I've heard of people getting in with comparable GPAs. I put all my eggs in this basket so the only options I have are this or grad school(chemistry).

If you score at least 505 on the MCAT you would be a good candidate for all the Florida schools so apply to all of them including the 2 DO schools. Nova may also be opening a new MD school for 2018. Other schools you should include are:
Howard
Morehouse
Meharry
In the meantime work on accumulating clinical volunteering and shadowing hours if you do not already have them. If you can take some science courses at a local college to increase your sGPA it would help also.

Okay, so I am in pretty much the same boat, but my trend is the opposite. I was pretty terrible my first two years of undergrad. I ended up graduating from NJIT with a business degree and an overall 3.2 over GPA. I just finished up my post-bacc and my GPA is nearly 4.0 (1/2 is at a 4 year university and the other 1/2 was completed at a community college). And if I am correct, AAMC combines undergrad with post-bacc undergrad courses so my total GPA is probably about the same ~3.4-.5. I take my MCAT in May, and realistically I think my score will be around 505-ish. I do not have research experience, and my volunteering / shadowing hours are okay. In May, I plan to start the AAP at JHU for masters in biotech. I am an African American female. My permanent address (parents' house) is in NJ, but I also have residence in NYC.

What are my options in terms of MD? How is SGU? In general, thoughts on Caribbean vs DO?

I know, I need nothing short of a miracle, but please keep the negative comments and sarcasm to a minimum. I really appreciate any helpful info.

How did you take a new AAMC mcat exam before you took pre-reqs? The exam isn't old enough for you to have done this (assuming you have taken at least 2 years for pre-reqs). I don't buy it anyways. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

Do you have anymore information on NOVA's potential MD school?

I'm sorry I was unclear- I had all my biology and chemistry but was missing physics.

How did you take a new AAMC mcat exam before you took pre-reqs? The exam isn't old enough for you to have done this (assuming you have taken at least 2 years for pre-reqs). I don't buy it anyways. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

Gotcha. You should be pretty solid then after content review. Exam is pretty bio/biochem heavy. Check out MCATJelly's study guide in the MCAT subforum.

That's an excuse. No medical school in the world will do you any favors by admitting you when are at high risk for failing out.

My school has notoriously difficult science departments so, if anything, I feel I'm prepared for medical school. I really don't think I'd "fail out" but thanks for the advice.

Yes. Med school will be a lot hard than anything in UG, and so it telegraphs that one will get killed by med school.

I see. So inversely, if someone struggled initially but then had a large upward trend, would it be seen as significant to adcoms?
OP could do a post-bacc of upper levels, do well and negate his downward trend no?

Right, because it's not like OP is starting from a 2.5 where its upward trend or die.
I believe their GPA is ok for their ethnicity(Based on AAMC data, but grades can always be better), the trend just needs to be fixed. I wish you luck OP!

What about an SMP? I've been looking into the EVMS SMP and it seems to gel with my interest/career goals.

What do you think @Goro ?

DIY Post bacc sounds like the safer route/less expensive route to me personally. But I don't know your career goals so I can't really advise too much on that part
