Hi All,
I am looking for some advice about my situation in applying to PA school. I am definitely a "non-traditional" student, 29 years old, my educational background story is as follows: got my degree in Biology undergrad, decided to go to veterinary school instead of PA school, as I was torn between the two and had been working in vet med already.
After graduating undergrad, I got in to vet school and after 1 year, ended up withdrawing due to life circumstance (and the fact that my debt would have been astronomical... near $300K to make $65K as a DVM)... essentially, I couldn't financially swing it to go back, and was having 2nd thoughts about vet med.
I had to re-think my path, and decided to go back to human med, apply to PA school and have done all the pre-requisite classes (need to re-take GRE as my awesome score is no longer valid after 5 years.. huge bummer), but am seriously lacking in human healthcare experience .
The good stuff: I have over 8 years of experience as a veterinary technician, good grades in vet school (a doctoral program), a decent undergrad GPA (3.2) - 4.0 in all classes taken for PA reqs since leaving vet school- also got my EMT-B certification (class valedictorian), and am applying to try to work in an ER/hospital as a tech ASAP, to get those paid clinical hours.
My question- what are my chances as an applicant? Will my vet school experience/deciding not to finish seriously hurt my chances?
This is super long and kind of complicated, but I'm really stressing about it and would love an opinion from the SDN peeps.
Thanks!!
