i haven't taken any sat 2's so far but i do plan to take sat 2 math and biology/chemistry though i'm trying to decide which one.... which other ones should i take?

my extra circular is what is really worrying me because i really don't have anything SIGNIFICANT i'm officers in a few minor clubs and i've done some TA work....

this summer i'm going to do a whole lot of hours of shadowing and i am going to get my LOR from my AP Chemistry and Chemistry/Advisor teachers

what are my chances? i no i fill all the prerequisites number wise... but where do i stand?

Wat do you think i could do to make me a more competitive applicant?
would really appreciate any advice, feeling very unprepared -_-

Usually I say academic stats are moot in gaining acceptances to these kind of programs and its based more on your ECs and what you've done to show your passion for dentistry (you still have to get a 4.0ish but the grade doesnt matter as much because there are a ton of 4.0 kids applying) but your large number of AP classes will make a huge difference. It MIGHT make up for the lack of dental ECs ... you'll be a shoe in if you do start adding some ECs into your app though but even without them you stand a decent chance.

you'll have no problem getting in. don't worry about it. it's not that hard to get in the UOP predental program but it's a lot of work to stay in the program from what i've heard from friends in the program currently because you're fitting your undergrad science courses in 2 years. i got in the 2+3 predental with around the same stats as you, thinking it would be pretty tough to get in a 5 year dental program but i guess i was wrong.

and i feel like it's not necessarily true that you need dental ECs but i'm sure it would help.

i swear to god every highschooler is doin this...they probably see some rich orthos office and are like..awww yeah imma be a dentist and make millions easily..all the chicks will be diggin me and my new ferrari and ill hit up the clubs...aw yeaaa imma be makin bank when im 24

how can i make this assumption?

look at wat the dude said. he hasn't even done any dental ECs (thus how can you know anything about dentistry without even doing any dental related activity), but he's 'going to do a whole lot of hours of shadowing' this summer

Lol...2200 SAT scores are in the 99th percentile, and a 4.4 GPA is very high too. So, it is tough to get into the program. You weren't wrong, you just had really high stats.

sadly, nothing but experience will teach you that completing undergrad in 2 years is a huge mistake. undergrad is an amazing place where you learn a lot about yourself and people around you..

i come from a place where people walk slow and talk even slower. having been in a place where people just cant seem to get where they're going fast enough (especially LA drivers..wow), i highly prefer the former (and so does my BP level)

Amen. I'm excited to take a break from Southern California for 4 years. There are a lot of people down here with no patience and short fuses. I think the old "laid back" stereotype of the West Coast died a while ago.

To the OP: my sister in law did a 5-year program in Winnipeg and loved it. But she is the type that couldn't wait to get out of school, so it was perfect for her.

As long as your academic stats FIT the UOP accelerated program's baseline for 2-3, 3-3, or 4-3, you can get in no problem. I don't know those numbers but look it up, you're fine. At least that's what I was told by my UOP peers who came out from the program

Thanks for all the replies!
Zipping through college and graduate school just seems to fit my situation right now, but I am still considering taking the long road.

I am really nervous about college right now especially since the applications are coming up so fast! I feel a lot better about UoP and since I've been shadowing, I feel a lot more comfortable with dentistry.

One more question though: I know time wise that UoP is worth it, but is it worth the money compared to other accelerated programs or even just going 4 years of college and 4 years of dental school? Probably stupid question I know.

It's pretty likely that you'll get accepted... GPA and SATs are great, and you have lots of APs which is very good (highly looked at).

About the cost, it is likely that you will be granted a $10k scholarship if you get into the honors program and everything (which is automatic), and you have an option to apply for the $15k powell scholarship that many of my friends did as well. I think the cost and short time is definitely worth it.. For me, it was nice to get through the undergrad sciences to actually get into the real dentistry drillings & stuffs (which ofc does include more sciences anyways).

Also, apply early (but make sure it's complete).. the deadline for accelerated application is in Nov I believe, so apply even earlier than that

you have great stats. I got into this program, but I declined...now I'm applying to D-school like a boss. Either way, what worked for me was being on time, being fast, and not cheaping out when i sent out my application. pay money to get things sent out ASAP. I was the only student in my highschool to get into it and several of my friends applied there as well. I had similar stats as you did.
