Hey guys, I still haven't receive any interview from any dental school that I applied. I submitted my application by mid-August. My Science GPA is lower than average 3.22. My DAT average is 19. PAT:21, Quantitative reasoning:19, Reading 19, Biology 19, chemistry 20, Organic chemistry 20. Is any suggestion here? I am stressful and worry about that I won't get any interview at all. I applied to 15 dental school, denied by UCSF and loma linda.

This should be in pre-dental forum

Well, your science GPA is on a lower side compare to other applicants. Some schools still interview during January as well. But again, your science GPA is something that you should really try to boost up if you don’t receive any interviews this cycle. Post bacc or master degree would be great options to have in mind.

I really don't mean to discourage you, but your numbers need some strength for your application to hold weight. as you know your GPA is low and your DAT score is average.

I would definitely re-take your DAT aiming for a 23+ to offset your GPA. study for 2 months straight and hard. need stellar ECs and letters to make it in as well.

then if next cycle isn't looking so hot, enroll in a Masters/post-bacc. I wouldn't be certain you could even get in next cycle to be frank. May take 1-2 years at least for you to do these things. It's a marathon not a sprint. best wishes to ya!

I appreciate for your reply, I know my GPA is low and average DAT. I very want to boost myself up. I live in a small village that I lack of opportunities than other university. I still haven't receive any interviews this cycle.............I feeling sad about myself. I will try to apply post bacc this year to get up my GPA.

You've been worried in your public posts for over a month. I don't see a record of a WAMC thread so I don't know where you applied. You have already been given some decent advice, and you should prepare for your plan B on a postbac (because your science GPA is lower than desired), but state residency and your prior networking can factor into your chances... but I have nothing to really make any suggestions.

Thank you Mr.Smile12. I am looking to school on postbac to improve my GPA and planning to re-take my DAT. I am california residency and live in a small village. I had applied all the dental school in california (Loma Linda, WestenU, USC, UCLA, UCSF, UOP) this cycle, Chicago, Lecom, Washington, Texas at Houston, Ohio, UNLV, Florida.

I know it’s getting later and later into the cycle by you might have some luck later in January or early February once the really competitive applicants who probably have multiple acceptances decline them by January 15th.

UWash really only accepts in-state applicants and those from surrounding states in the Pacific Northwest as part of an agreement. Texas heavily favors in-state applicants and you'd better have ties to Texas of some kind if you hope to gain even an interview. And yes, this is true even for applicants with very strong stats.

If you haven't already, I strongly suggest buying the online ADEA Explorer to see average GPAs and DAT scores of matriculants. It will also tell you which schools heavily favor in-state applicants and which ones don't.

To tack on to 0mik3, your list is part of the problem. With your stats you need way more oos safety schools (usually the expensive private ones) to stand a chance. As a CA resident, you have low chances at Chicago, Washington, Texas at Houston, Ohio, UNLV (given your stats, not residence), and Florida. Also, UCLA, ucsf, and pacific are pretty stat obsessed, so these are also somewhat unsuitable picks. So it’s effectively like you applied to 4 schools as opposed to 15. This likely contributed to your interview problem. Like he said above, adea explorer can be a godsend to help you pick appropriate schools based on stats and oos friendliness (most important). Also heed the words of those that said improve your DAT (study like crazy so the second time is your last) or do a masters.

lol I didn't know there were still small villages in Cali

I agree with the other posters, your scores need to be bumped up quite a bit, and your school list is off.

Sadly, I don’t have any luck at this moment.

I am studying DAT again, try to improve my score to 23+, thank you for your comments.

Unless you had an abundance of EC's with your low stats, I would not have applied to UoP, UCSF, or UCLA. Loma Linda is also a very religious school so unless you are Seventh Day Adventist or very active in your religious community, I would have also not applied here. Washington, all Texas schools, Ohio, and all Illinois schools except for Midwestern are not OOS friendly. You should definitely invest in an explorer book or online membership. It's $25 for the online and you can see the stats of admitted students for each school. There are people who have gotten into dental school with your stats but found the right kind of schools to apply for.

I would definitely start prepping for this cycle by boosting your DAT and finding volunteer /shadowing opportunities. Even volunteering online is better than nothing. When you apply again, look into OOS friendly schools. California schools seem to get more and more competitive every year. Look into applying to Indiana, NYU, Minnesota, Louisville, and private schools such as Marquette and Detroit Mercy.
