Hi All,

As the 2016/17 application cycle winds down - I'm left with a dilemma. I need to arrive at some hard truths about whether I should pursue a 3rd Application Cycle. I was also unsuccessful in 2012/13. As a frame of reference I graduated in 2010. Below you will find an out line of Stats/EC's and where they fit into each application cycle. Apologies in advance for the long post - but I'd like a firm grasp on where I stand, especially if I need to retake the MCAT.

My clinical/non clinical volunteer experiences haven't had any longevity until recently. As you will see below, they were started just prior to submitting my primary. I do not know how much weight an adcom will give recently started activities, especially service ones.

My advantages going into my next application will be recent coursework and longitudinal service experiences.

A 3rd application will most certainly include DO schools.

Red Indicates Stats and Experiences that applied only to 2016/2017
Indicates Stats and Experiences that will apply to 2016/17

Completion Date

2012/13 - late October/early November
2016/17 - early August with few in mid-September

GPA
cGPA : 3.69; 3.71 (added 8hrs of A&P course work since submitting application)

**This is a big area of concern for me. I do not know if my decrease in score, albeit a balanced score, hurt me in the long run. Is a retake here something that could boost my app?

Hey, I am sorry you have to go through this again. What was your previous school list ? Did you get any interviews? Are you retaking the MCAT? Have you looked into your loRs? Do you have any baggage ?

Both GPAs are solid. MCAT is still good. Good ECs. You should get some more shadowing though. I believe you said you didn't get in the first time because of little ECs? Looks like you are fine on that front now. Honestly you should definitely get in. At least DO. But yeah get some more shadowing.

Thanks for the sympathy, it is what it is. I updated the original post to reflect my school lists and baggage.

I'm strongly considering the retake and have started reviewing Khan videos and took the NS 1/2 diagnostic. 502 with no content review.

LORs are the wild card - I'd rate them as moderate on the whole. My academic ones will be generic, while my professional one could be strong.

Thanks for the advice! I'm trying to find shadowing as we speak (errr, type?). The first cycle was doomed by my EC's and late app, in my opinion.

You probably need to retake the MCAT for the 2018 application cycle since your old scores may be too old for many schools. You are strong candidate for any DO school so apply to at least 12 and you should receive several interviews. I am assuming you are a Florida resident. If your new MCAT is at least 508 (30 on old scale) then you would have a chance for an interview at these schools:
All your Florida MD schools (Nova may have a new MD school for 2018)
Quinnipiac
NYMC
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
GW
Georgetown
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
St.Louis
Creighton
Tulane
any new private schools that open for 2018 (Seton Hall, Roseman, etc.)
Post your new MCAT score here when available. Ideally you should apply in June and submit all your secondaries by July.
