TMDSAS: ?

I would be grateful with any MD school in the country. I will also be submitting TMDSAS within the next couple of weeks, as I have ties to Texas. However, I understand they are extremely selective with OOS applicants. I would also appreciate any suggestions for where to apply...

What are my chances?

EDIT: Here is my list...

Rush University
University of Illinois at Chicago
Southern Illinois University
Rosalind Franklin
Saint Louis University
University of Missouri - Kansas City
University of Louisville
Tulane
Quinnipiac
WV
Drexel
Temple
VT

Penn State
Albany
NYMC
VCU
EVMS
Wake Forest
Jefferson
Tufts
MCW

University of Texas - San Antonio

Are you URM, ORM, or neither?

You have a solid shot for sure if you apply wisely. If you're a URM you're a sure bet unless your PS is terrible and you interview poorly.

No URM unfortunately. Disadvantaged, yes.

But I do not believe that actually counts for very much...

Probably not, but it certainly won't hurt, especially at some schools. Statistically your numbers have about a 50% chance of getting accepted. Your ECs are pretty good.

How is your GPA trend? How does it break down by freshman/sophomore/junior/senior? How are your grades in the prereqs?

"Ties to TX" are usually insufficient to get you a spot among the 10% left over (after the schools have met their legal requirements).
If you are applying this cycle you must already have some idea, no?
Show us your list for more help.

I tried my best, so no regrets.

Grades in pre-reqs are far from steller (unlike some people on here). But I guess they are not quite atrocious either:

B in Bio 1 & Orgo 1
C in GChem 2; and C in Biochem at CC after graduating (I know, weird)
...A's in the rest

I do not have a CLEAR upward trend. More or less balanced throughout...

Also, I submitted my AMCAS app to only one school today just to get it verified. So I would really benefit from any suggestions on specific schools.

Please feel free to let me know what you think!

2 Bs and 2 Cs in prereqs isn't going to look great. You have a shot, so apply and apply wisely.

I strongly suggest you get a DO application in too. You're solid for pretty much any DO program.

Thank you sir!

Do you think submitting this "late" in the cycle will affect my interviews? Also, in case it makes a difference, I am planning on applying to 20-25 schools...

You're not very late for MD, and it's still early for DO.

What MD schools are you applying to? BTW gyngyn is an actual adcom; I'm just some nobody student. Answer his questions before mine lol

Seconded. Your (referring to OP) GPA is actually slightly below average for DO schools, let alone MD ones. The MCAT is really good for a DO application, but actually below average for MD schools, especially ones that average scores.

My apologies! I didn't see your question when I read first read your comment, for some reason...

I am not bound to Texas, but I just definitely wouldn't mind if I ended up there. I actually haven't put together a list yet. I was just concerned with getting this submission out as soon as possible. I was actually hoping to use the msar a bit more and maybe get some suggestions from you guys about what schools consider >3.5 gpas...

I guess for starters, my list would include the following:

Rush University
University of Illinois at Chicago
Rosalind Franklin
Southern Illinois University
University of New Mexico
University of Tennessee Health Science Center
Michigan State University
Saint Louis University

Sorry, dumb question but I couldn't figure out if Cooper Med School and Mercer were all-black? I tried quickly googling it the other day, but I didnt see anything pop up. I had just been hoping to apply to the the "lower tier" MDs due to my GPA...

I believe there is a freeway that divides IL into north and south. Are you from the south of this road?
Neither Cooper nor Mercer are HBCU's.
NM has about as strong an IS bias as you can get (4/833OOS matriculates).

I think your research would benefit from a review of the MSAR.

I submitted my AMCAS today so that it would go into the que for verification. I was going to add more schools though as I have a little bit more time on my hands now to do research on msar and schools.

yes you are probably right. I only briefly reviewed msar, will keep looking at it. And, I am from the North side. Does this mean that SIU is an absolute no-go as well?

He applied to a throwaway and is now formulating his additions, I believe.
Yes. I actually applied to Rush University. I am not sure how I forgot to put that on my list... Fixing it now...

Usually, unless you can convince them that you have a commitment to service there.

Ah, roger.

I couldn't produce a good list, but you should start with Albany, Tulane, Missouri, Quinnipiac, WV, Rush. Maybe Drexel, Temple, VT.
Thanks! I did not really know where to start, so this helps alot!

Hmm. Lets add those to the list then.. You are right. I do need to look it over further. I just submitted my app today so I was too stressed to spend any time on this previously...

But thank you!

I am researching on msar right now, but just looking for some additional direction in case anyone can help....

Besides the ones Jonnythan kindly listed, any other oos schools that fit my student profile?

Otherwise, would you be able to chance me on my list so far?

Goro suggests

Rosalind Franklin
Saint Louis University
Tulane

No, don't add them to your list. Mercer does not accept OOS applicants and Cooper only matriculated 22/2659 OOS.

Can someone tell me what exactly constitutes as a "new medical school"?

Sorry, I just didnt know if he meant brand new, or relatively new as well...

Sorry! Maybe its the lack of sleep, but I just did... Am I supposed to be seeing something specifically?
This is a school that has historically accepted almost all it students from its Bac-MD program. You may need to dig a little deeper to see how many OOS matriculates are not from this source.
