What are my chances of getting accepted into optometry school?

I have two failed classes, one is organic chemistry II and the other is human physiology. I plan on retaking the courses during the summer 2010. I am taking my OAT in march. my current GPA with the failed classes factored is about a 2.9 without having re-taken the failed classes. I still have additional classes to take.

Can someone please share their experience and if they got in with failed classes. Do i stand a chance of getting accepted to optometry school?

Your GPA is low, but it will not be impossible to get in to a school. Retake the class and get As in them. Also do well in the OATs to offset your GPA.
Combined with good LORs, good personal statements, and applying to a fair amount of schools, you should be able to get in somewhere.

As far as failing, it happens. People have gotten in after failing and retaking a class.

i'd also like to point out that you should retake the classes at the same university because according to Optomcas, they won't replace your failed grade with the retake grade unless it's from the same institution. I've called PCO and SCO because I wondered if they did their own calculation of GPA, but they also go by the same criteria.
