Overall GPA: 2.44 (Accounting Major)
Science GPA: 3.22

DAT (1st time):
Biology: 17
Chemistry: 21
Organic Chemistry: 21
Perceptual Ability: 22
Reading Comprehension: 22
Quantitative Reasoning: 20
Academic Average: 20 (86.7 percentile)

So I have a low cumulative GPA of 2.44. I messed up first couple years of college when I didn't have a sense of direction or motivation to do well in school. I was an accounting major but didn't have a desire for it. Then I realized that I wanted to become a dentist and follow this path, so I went back to school for 4 semesters taking prerequisites for dental school and over the last 2 years I have a GPA of 3.92 (All A's with one B).

For extracurriculars, I have attended 2 charity events. I have been working as an dentist anesthesiologist assistant for the past year. We do ambulatory anesthesia, go to dental offices and put patients to sleep who need a lot of work done or who have dental phobias. I have worked at over 30 different dental offices, observed over 250 cases, and been able to observe dentistry done by dentists from all different types of specialties. I also have a part timejob working on cars for the past 5+ years, a job that has improved my manual dexterity over the years.

I applied to 13 schools in hopes of getting in this round. I feel that if dental schools can look past my overall GPA and see what I have accomplished over the past two years and how much better I have done I will be able to get some interviews. After being in school for so long and taking many credits bringing up my cumulative GPA much higher is extremely difficult.

Any thoughts of my chances or advice on something I can do to help my chances?

Thanks Koalafied. I like where they say dental schools see a stronger correlation with DAT scores and first year dental school performance than predental gpa. Comforting to read that in my case haha. Keeping my head up and thinkin positive!
