Hello there, first time on the SD network. I've been going through quite a bit of anxiety recently determining how I'll get into Med school with my application. Here are a few bullet points to give you some info.
I've been in undergrad for probably more than the average student. About 1 year at one college switching over to community college for 3 years. Now at a new college for probably 1 and a half before graduating.
Lots of credits for my undergrad which boils down to a total gpa currently at 3.3 with a little less on science. But I still have another half year to bump that by a bit. Also I'm doing really well recently getting straight As
I think the strongest part of my application is my extra curricular which involves working on a UC davis medical research database, essentially making the data base. Also going to Afghanistan to help out in a hospital. Shadowing physicians at UC Davis also.
I plan on taking the MCAT at the end of this summer. So I'll be studying all summer for it. I'll probably end up applying after my senior year which means I'll have a gap year and probably go back to Afghanistan.
I wanted to gauge what you guys think of my application content. I know the gpa is weak but would a strong MCAT score redeem it? Am I heavily favored against because of my low gpa?
Also what's a good tool to find new schools that I would have a good chance of getting into?
