hey guys i'm applying to PT school and i just want to know my chances on getting in! and also some feedback on what i can improve on given the chances i dont get in. heere are my stats!

Major: Biology (graduated with my bachelors)

Cumulative GPA: 3.02 (PTCAS)

Prerequisite GPA: 3.13 (PTCAS)

GRE: 145 Verbal (25%)
145 Quant (21%)
3.5 Writing (38%)

Observation Hours: 3000+ outpatient
65 inpatient hospital
80 nursing home

References: 2 PTs and 1 Professor

Extracurricular Activities: Basketball leagues, Physical Therapy Club, Chess Club, Filipino Club, Weightlifting Club

I'm terrible at standardized testing and this was the third time i've taken the GRE 🙁
Also my GPA is low because of being such a slacker in my early semesters because i didnt know what i wanted to do and also didnt care until i discovered physical therapy. I am so invested in this field and i hope that shows in my observation hours. So far I've been waitlisted by 3 schools and I've applied to A LOT and rejected by everything else. I'm still waiting to hear back from other schools! But I am getting nervous. Two of the school who waitlisted me said that i was in the bottom half of the wait list which is bad news 🙁 but I just want to know if i actually have a chance this year. if not then i will study my butt off for the GRE for the next time around!

I would focus more on raising your pre-req GPA rather than your GRE, as most schools care more about pre req GPA... I would try and get an A in every pre req class that you received a C or lower in. Try and get it to at least a 3.3 if possible. Some schools take the highest grade in retakes so research those programs.

Your GRE score is very low too and after 3 tries I'm not sure how much you can improve it. There are some schools that don't care about the GRE (Nazareth in Rochester NY for example) so maybe try applying to these schools.

Also, apply to schools that don't use PTCAS (like St. Augustine) as they probly receive less applications since people don't wanna make the extra effort to apply there. Also apply to schools in the procress of being accredited (like West Coast or SDSU).

the whole accreditation thing is a little iffy to me though. i dont understand what that realy means

From my broad understanding, most schools that are in the "process of being accredited" usually end up being accredited. If not, they usually have a back-up plan for students in their program (i.e. transfer them to another program).

Unless you went to a top 10 ivy league school, or have really good GRE scores/extracurriculars, it will be difficult to get into a PT program nowadays with below a 3.3 GPA for both cumulative and pre-req. 5 years ago, you could probably get into multiple schools with your stats, but the competition for PT school has increased dramatically over these past couple of years.

That's why I believe your best chance are either schools that don't use PTCAS or schools in the process of being accredited.

These schools don't require the GRE (though I would double check with the school itself!)

Have you retaken any prerequisites yet? I agree that those may give you the most bang for your buck in terms of getting your GPA higher.
In term of the GRE...how did you study? Getting up to a 300 combined would give you many more options. It would suck to take it again and not do any better, but if you can critically evaluate your study skills and make an improvement, it may be worth it.

With this said, the application cycle isn't over yet! You may still get good news on your waitlists. Good luck!

I have taken classes over but I think PTCAS averages my grades out. Also I studied for my GRE with a program called magoosh. If I am going to retake it again I'm signing up for a gre course.

I would utilize the SDN search feature heavily. What to do about bad grades and getting into PT school has been discussed more than repeatedly, and there is tons of good advice as well as links to a couple of helpful blogs out there.

Needless to say, if you don't get in anywhere this year, is that retaking the pre-reqs that you didn't get at least a B+ in will definitely be helpful.

So I want to give you some hope because while my GPA was average (3.32), my pre req GPA was abysmal (2.79), I did get into one school. But it seems most schools do focus on preq GPA and GPA more than GRE as my GRE was pretty good (GRE: 158V 158Q 4.0W) and I still got rejected by 5 other schools and understandably so. I would focus on uping the preq GPA as much as possible if you don't have the GRE to fall back on. Then apply to schools that don't take the GRE into consideration like NYIT or schools that aren't apart of the PTCAS like St. Augustine.

Good luck though! I hope it all works out!

Which school did you get into?

Def take a ton more classes to raise the GPA. Retake all pre reqs you don't have at least a B+ Also consider taking a GRE prep class.
