Hey guys I was searching for some advice on my application and was wondering my chances of getting in to MD/DO. I am reapplying and currently still on the waitlist at 1 school.

GPA has been an upward trend
cGPA: 3.55
sGPA: 3.6
MCAT: 503 (126/122/128/127),
503 (126/124/127/126)

Have over 2000 clinical hours within a major Boston hospital. Volunteer once or twice a week. Undergraduate research
Recently got into a masters program in biomedical science starting in August (1 year)

State of residence: NJ

Do you guys think the masters program will have a large impact on my application

You're circling the drain for MD, but fine for DO with a broad application.

Getting accepted is 100% on you; you're likely to get DO IIs,

I can't recommend an MCAT retake given no improvement on the second try.
I can't recommend Touro-NY, Nova, Wm Carey, LUCOM, for different reasons. MSUCOM? Read up on Larry Nasser and you decide. LMU has an accreditation warning, which concerns me.

Thank you for your reply. My goal is to apply broadly. I already submitted the application for about 15-20 DO schools as well as lower tier MDs. Do you think the masters program will impact my application a lot. I’m just not sure on how to improve my chances, if I should do research or attend the masters program I got into. Thanks again for your reply your opinion is valued.

I wouldn’t spend money on a master’s program. Your gpa is fine for DO.

Also, Is there a reason you can’t recommend the schools mentioned? Is it due to my criteria or due to the school itself? Thanks.

The schools themselves-Low board pass rates, accreditation issues etc. Don't put yourself in a position that could hinder your success when you could go to a school get the same degree and be in a better position to match. Overall, matching is on you not the school but if you are going to apply to med school at least attend one that will not have a negative impact on you in the first place.

Why not these schools?

Nova: three of the four last years have declining first-time COMLEX pass rates. They're now at ~85% and on top of this, some 7% of their 2018 grads failed to match. This was the second worst match rate among all the COMs (only WCU did worse). These are things you expect from a new school, not a veteran. They still won't release the 2018 COMLEX results, which is NOT a good sign. Something is very wrong there.

Wm Carey: VERY high attrition rates and only a 92% placement rate for their Class of 2018. That means 8% of their grads are now unemployed, NOT doing residency. No SOAP, no scramble, no TRI. This is simply NOT acceptable. I expect they'll be put on probation very soon.

Touro-NY: Poor COMLEX II pass rates;

LUCOM: I have a profound distaste for the politics of their parent organization; their Faculty make blatant attempts to twist facts to match their theology.
From the wise gyngyn: Liberty is poorly regarded due to the history of intolerance of their founding fathers. This school's reputation for intolerance puts its grads at a disadvantage at many reputable residency programs.

LMU: granted continuing Accreditation with Heightened Monitoring. “Accreditation with Heightened Monitoring: This indicates that fewer than three standards are non-compliant and ongoing monitoring will occur via progress reporting. For schools with this status, accreditation will be granted for four years.”

This is the only COM that has this level of accreditation status right now.

Thank you for providing this information. This is something I had no idea

Do you think that the 2 503s will hurt my chances of getting in somewhere
