Hey guys just wanted general opinions on my chances of getting into pharmacy schools around chicago. My top choice is UIC but am also considering Midwestern university, roosevelt and rosalind franklin. I already graduated from school but am finishing pre-requisites now and in the fall and plan on applying in August after summer classes. MY cumulative GPA through the school (not pharmcas) is exactly 3.0. I was on probation fall semester of my junior year because i tried to switch majors and was very lost and had no clue what i wanted to do. Then senior year I figured out i wanted to go to pharmacy school, got my grades up, got on the dean's list this past semester and ended up with a 3.0 GPA. I am currently retaking some of my classes because I did have a few D's and C-'s =[ but am trying really hard and plan on getting A's in all my retakes and all pre-reqs that i still have to take. Took the PCAT in July and got a 92 composite with a 99% in chem, an 88 in math and an 82 in bio. Also I have been working in a pharmacy as a technician for the past 5 months now and am getting a LOR from my pharmacist/boss. Just would like to know your opinions and if i even have a chance of getting into UIC. Thanks =]

You have a high PCAT score. Without knowing your pharmcas GPA for the prereqs its hard to say. But their average GPA is 3.4 and I am guessing your GPA will be higher than 3.0 for pharmcas GPA. You have a good chance for an interview. And then, its up to you.

You should think about doing early decision. Your chances go up slightly higher if you do. But make sure the other schools don't have rolling admissions because if you don't get in, you may be in a disadvantageous position for the other schools if they have rolling admissions.

yeah i was planning on applying in august as soon as summer classes end. thanks for your input! So why exactly would rolling admissions be bad if i got denied for early admission? I'm not really sure how all that works. It would put me behind? Or why exactly would rolling admission be bad? I know midwestern has rolling admission.

When you apply for early decision, you cannot apply to any other school until you get denied. So that means, you will have to wait to apply to midwestern until you get denied.

Rolling admission means they take in students as application is sent in until all the spots are filled. So, they may take in less students toward the end of deadline where space is more limited because they want to make sure they have space for really good students. I don't think it is that big of a difference but my professor told me students that submitted their application in august got in while students that submitted their application in early october didn't even though they had similar stats if the school had rolling admission.

This was just her observation writing hundreds of recommendation letters to students. She does not work at admission office at pharmacy schools tho.

It will depend on how much you want to get into UIC and midwestern. If you really like UIC and don't really care if you get into Midwestern, do the early decision. You still have two other schools you can get into. If you like both UIC and Midwestern and you don't like the other two school, maybe you should just apply to both schools regularly.
