Chances of getting into MD/DO schools

I'm applying to a bunch of schools...what do you think my chances are of getting in w/ 3.66 BCPM GPA, 3.4 undergrad GPA, and 27R MCAT?

I think just based on those numbers you have a decent shot of landing a spot somewhere, however there are more factors that need to be considered. Personality, EC's, are you a good fit for the school, things such as that can be equally important. A professor told me that when he interviewed candidates for medical school, he was the head of the neurosurgery residency, that he saw people with 4.0 and 35+ MCAT that after the interview he said, "I wouldn't let that person care for my dog let alone a person."

I think your stats are good enough to get a look from MD programs as well. Like everyone else's OPINION, mine has no value. Do the research as to what schools you want to apply to and their stats/values. In other words are you a good fit into their program?

Thanks...yeah it's tough...some good and some bad. I'm 26, have worked as an information technology consultant at kaiser permanente, behavioral therapist, underwriter for Aetna, and volunteered plenty in hospitals. The 27 might kill me though...7 in verbal, 2 10's...ironic because I teach SAT verbal classes.

Goes to show you that SAT and MCAT are two different tests. Do you think that it's possible that you didn't prepare for verbal as well as you should have since you teach SAT verbal? Just curious.

I definetely prepared as well as I could...my practice tests were consistently 9-11, but I understand the process. I was at Scripps Postbac. while I studied for the MCAT so I was taking my prereqs. as well. Still, I don't think that's the reason...

I have a 2.7 cum ugpa but a 3.7 graduate gpa in biochemisty. My MCAT is 24 and I am an URM. Do I have any shot at an MD program??

I like to think there is always a shot, but recognize your stats are on the low end, so try to compensate in other areas.

Please don't hijack other people's threads. With that GPA/MCAT combo MD programs will be pretty much assuredly be out of reach for you (as will most/all DOs). You need to bring up your undergrad gpa (either SMP or more undergrad classes) a lot. You also need to study harder for the MCAT, retake it and (with your GPA) get a 10+ in each section.

OP: Your GPA is fine for some allo schools. The problem is that the 27 is pretty low (especially since your GPA is on the lower end). What's the score breakdown (all 9s or is there a range?) You can try applying, especially if you have GREAT ECs. If it doesn't work out, retake the MCAT and do better and try again.
