I am asking anyone who is currently in, graduated from, or just well informed on USUHS about my odds of getting into USUHS. I am an Army ROTC cadet, I have a 3.76 GPA in Psychology, I am #1 in my ROTC program with alot of ROTC awards and leadership experience, I have LORs from a CPT I did a 3 week Army Preventive Medicine internship and my Professor of Military Science. I am little bummed b/c I just received my MCAT score of a 29 with an 8 in PS, a 12 in BS and an 9 in VR. My appication to USUHS was completed this week, so it is a little bit on the late side.
I know nothing is 100% certain in the world of Medical School admissions but I just want someone to shoot me straight about my odds.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There's no telling, but I think you've got a good chance. You are a little late and that's probably the worst thing, because your MCAT is close to their average and your GPA is higher. Do you want Army? I don't think they fill as quickly, especially with the war on.

I'm an applicant there and dating an MS1 there. I can't tell you your chances, 'cause I don't even know mine yet (please, oh please).

Be prepared for the interview and definitely wear your uniform. Good luck!

Got a question for you USUHS buffs out there...once granted an interview, what are the chances of acceptance? I have no prior military experience but I'm very interested. Unfortunately, I'm at a loss for sources besides SDN to explore and become more informed of exactly what I'm getting into. For some reason I really feel that I'd dig military life and military medicine...and in my mind I've placed it as my top choice along with my state school.

I'm also afraid that I'll be the only one wearing a suit and all the other interviewees will come with their uniforms and be able to better relate to the interviewers and such...possibly strengthening their chances. Can someone provide some insight? Thanks 😀

They accepted approximately 270 out of 500 if that helps. So they accept slightly more than 50% of interviewees.

You need to figure out what draws you more specifically than "For some reason...". I've served for over 8 years now and it can really suck. Someone else having control over where you live, how often you're home, and many other aspects is not fun. You'll come out financially ahead if you avoid the military.

Most interviewees wore suits. I think there were about 3-5 out of 23 in uniform. One Army ROTC cadet had forgotten to wear her uniform, so it could potentially have been one more.

PM me if you want... I'm trying to save my 10K post for good news

My stats were almost identical to yours but I had four years of active duty years (enlisted in preventive medicine) and I got accepted three and half years ago. However I received the offer of interview by October and interviewed in Late November. Your chance is good. Just interview well...
4th year HPSP.

Your chances of getting in are good, depending on which service you want to join. All USAF slots fill by December, so you may be SOL if that is the service you want. USN and USA have more slots, so I would put one of them as your top service to give you the best chance.

It is all about the slots. If you don't get an interview by EARLY December, you are SOL. I was USAF Academy Grad, 11 yrs AD USAF, MPH from USUHS, 3.85 GPA, 30P MCAT, and I interviewed 1st week in Jan. Only the Army had any slots left by then, and they only had about 6 positions left. Needless to say, I am attending med school at another university. You could be a CMOH winner and still be SOL if they don't have any slots. That is just the bass-ackwards way of they run their admissions process.

I'd totally agree. Their admissions office made this really clear when I contacted them, so I submitted AMCAS on June 2nd, got my secondary in w/in a week, and got my letters in as fast as I could motivate my writers. I was invited to the first interview on Sept 29th and I was informed of my acceptance today.

I want to and consequently have to ,due to my Army ROTC committment, go Army. So it sounds like I have a good shot. Appreciate all the advice.

Its really a throw of the dice when it comes to medical school. Your GPA is great and your MCATS are slightly above average, so you definitly have a shot, but your essays also carry a lot of weight.

Once you have an interview your chances are relatively significant, earlier is ofcourse better but this by no means an end all. I had to interview late for personal reasons and when I was accepted (sometime early 2005) USAF was full, but I opted to go on the waitlist and was eventually offered a spot. So the point is you really never know, lists move. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT however to not chose a branch based on chances of getting in because you are going to be in that branch for a long time. Every branch has its up and downs and it really depends what branch is best suited for you based on your personality, experience, and career goals. If multiple branches are a good fit then good on you.

Dont listen to hype of any branch. I love the USAF, but does this mean you are going to love it? No... ofcourse not. Do the research, each branch has websites, and you can even go to recruiting posts and ask questions. Best of luck and dont give up!
